Comments: Hello,

My father, VINCENT J. TOBIN, proudly served in the
USMC for 22-1/2

years. I'm posting this in the hopes of anyone having

any photo resources, articles, for any of my father's

service from 1942-1964. I hope this following info is

correct, according to my Mom's recollection of events.

We never received his Duty stations DD214, as

requested, so long ago. He passed in 1993.

Enlisting in 1942, Boston, MA., Boot camp Perris

Island in 1942, to CHERRY POINT, N.C., for Aviation

Mechanic school, (First Marine, 3rd Marine Air Wing

(MAW) (1st MAW 212-214) Went to San Diego, CA., then

overseas for thirteen months. He worked on Grumman F4F-

4 FIGHTERS. (maybe others like F6F HELLCATS, or P-

40's.)

Some of his duty stations include: SOMOAN IS. 4/1942,

NEW HEBRIDES IS. 5/1942, GUADALCANAL-8/1942, RUSSELL

IS. 3/1943, BAUER FIELD, EFATE - (VMF-221 Fighter

squadron) (MAG 21) NEW GEORGIA IS. 7/1943, VELLA-

LAVELLA 10/1943, BOUGAINVILLE, 12/1943.

Back from overseas to Cherry Point, NC., Moved to

Santa Ana, Ca., IN 1951, and was stationed at EL TORO

MCAS. TRANPORT DIVISION. HERCULES & BUFFALO C-130's.

VMR Squadrons 152, 253, 252, and 352. ( 1961-1962

IWAKUNI, JAPAN VMR-252) KOREA, AND OKINAWA- 1945.

While in IWAKUNI, OCT. 1962, COL. R.O.WHITE received a

commendation R4D, for the squadron flying thousands of

miles without any accidents. My father retired MSGT,

in the VMGR-352, in April 1964, and Col. White

attended his retirement party at LTA (Tustin Lighter

Than Air, Blimp Base, Ca. There was a squadron photo

taken at this time, and I'm trying to get a copy of

this group photo, OR actually ANY group Squadron

Photos of ANY of the 1st MAW, 3rd MAW, 212-214, VMF-

221, MAG-21, VMR-152, 252, 253, and 352, from his

service, 1942 thru 1964.

Out of the known (Guadalcanal) Photographers that I've

heard of thus far, that covered WWII, RALPH MORSE,

Life Photographer, Time Inc., Douglas H. Page, and Lou

Lowery, USMC Photographers, there has to be more

archival photos somewhere, from these or other

sources. I'm hoping so.

Under the command, VMF-124 Guadalcanal - LT. KENNETH

A. WALSH, 4/1943, and VMF-221 Solomon Islands - LT.

JAMES E. SWETT, 8/15 -30th,1943.

Out of the known (Guadalcanal) Photographers that I've

heard of thus far, that covered WWII, RALPH MORSE,

Life Photographer, Time Inc., Douglas H. Page, and Lou

Lowery, USMC Photographers, there has to be more

archival photos somewhere, from these or other

sources. I'm hoping so.

Thank you very much for allowing me to post on this

page, and know, that I have a great amount of

gratitude for all of your service to our country!

I realize this was so many years ago, and the veterans

of wars gone by, are sadly passing away, and with

them, are the treasures of memories that could have

been shared with military family members such as

myself. I am so proud of my father's accomplishments

in his service to the USMC. God bless!

First Marine, 3rd Marine air wing (MAW)

___________________________________________

Since you stated that you are a veteran, I'm hoping

you are from the old squadrons of the past during the

WWII of the Solomon and Russell Islands, and Korean

Wars. I get so confused that presently, these

Squadrons are respectively named the same numbers. If

you are NOT from this era, then I do apologize.

During 1942-1964, my father was an aviation mechanic

with the 1st Marine MAW 212-214,3rd MAW, MAG-221, VMF-

221, VMR 152,252,253,and VMGR 352, in IWAKUNI, Japan.

He started out working on Hellcats F4F-4, F6F

Fighters, then to C130 transports. He retired as

MSGT, in 1964 at MCAS El Toro, Ca. I'm trying to get

squadron photos, articles, or anything related to his

service over those years, or possibly connect with any

possible fellow marine from any of his units.

Thank you for your service!

Comments: My grandfather was the CO of VMR 152 during the Korean war and I have heard a lot of stories about him from then junior officers who new him then, when I was in the US Navy during the 70's. If anyone has a story to tell about him I'd appreciate hearing from you. I have learned over the years that he was one hell of a marine and didn't know him very well and would like to know more.
Thanks

Comments: My Father retired as a MSGT Vincent J. Tobin. (RIP) He served in Korea and Iwakuni,Japan,to name a few.

Where would be the best place to go for any archival photos of his years with his squadron to see if he is in any of them?

Thank you!

Keywords: My Father, Vincent J. Tobin, was with the VMR 152,253,and others.
Service years were 1942-1964.
There was a safety award given to Col. R.O.White-Commanding Officer of VMR 253 in Iwakuni, Japan with the troops. My Dad, MSGT Vincent J. Tobin would be in that picture. Any chance of finding a copy of this photo, or any others with him in the other few squadrons he served with? My Mother has been an Air transporter member for many years.

Thank you for any assistance. James
