Looking for Marines who served with My Dad

Alicia Dean wrote on 2010-05-24 20:29:41.0

Comments: Hello All:

I am looking for anyone who can share stories, recollections, or photos of my Father Leon Dean. He was part of VMF 214 and served during to Korean war. He later transferred to VMF 312. All of my Dad's uniforms and keepsakes from the time were lost in a fire long before I was born and I'm trying to pull together what history I can about his service in the Marine Corps.

Thank you!

Comments: Looking for anyone who might have some info on the Black Sheep during the 1950 to 1951 time frame. My dad was a member of the Black Sheep at that time, assigned to the plane WE (Willie Easy) 14. Was on the carrier Sicily during part of that time.

Any info, old photos, etc., would be appreciated. Dad has been gone now since 1993, and just trying to see what we (the family) can find to pass on to kids and grandkids, etc.

many thanks...

Comments: A number of years ago I asked a friend of mine, LtCol. John Perrin, USMC (Ret) if he had any pictures of his time with the Black Sheep while in Korea. Well he took to a closet and proceeded to pull out and check slide trays. I said "John I meant pictures." He said this was all he had. So I took them and had negitives made of several as well as prints. Several years later I got a new scanner that could scan in slides so I got all the slides John had of his time in the Forgotten War plus a number of others of his helicopter flying time.

Anyway, I asked John who was in these pictures and he could only identify a few and of course I never wrote those few names down.

John died over a year ago. I just ran across these pictures again.

John was aboard the "jeep" carries right at the start of the action and then went back again in 1952 (I believe).

Is there anyone out there who was with John at this time who may help me with names, places, etc.?

By the way without spellcheck I take no responsibility for my spelling.
