The USMC had taught him to run a very organized life. His estate and personal belongings is still taking me and my family. He was the cleanest and most organized man I have ever seen. If any one has any extra pictures of him please email me. God bless. A.B. Reasonover

Comments: Looking for information on an F-4U Corsair that flew with the VMA 323 Unit in Korea and that was known as the "Death Rattlers." I am interested in learning more about this unit, and specifically about the crew of this particular airplane. I would also appreciate any references to other material sources. If you need my city mailing address for this, please so advise, and many thanks for any assistance. Bill

I'm looking for any information on the early flying sergeants group I can get. Who was in the group? What did their insignia look like? Any picture? I have a picture of the group, but no names.

VMA-323 Air Combat

Joe Brennan wrote on 2003-02-12 15:54:22.0

Comments: I am researching air combat operations of USMC squadrons in Korea with aim of writing about it. VMA-323 had two encounters with MiG’s which I can find in records, 10 Sep 1952 and 26 Mar 1953. In the second case a MiG was claimed damaged and the MiG unit involved claimed an F4U downed (though none was lost). By chance does anyone know, first hand or otherwise, more about these or other air combat incidents?

MAJ. EARL WINDELL LANGSTON A.K.A. 'PREACHER'

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Rob Mears wrote on 2001-08-30 09:33:54.0

Comments: Maj. Earl Windell "Preacher" Langston was my uncle. He flew active combat sorties with VMF-323 and VMF-312 from June thru September of 1952. He was from the Monroe, Louisiana area

He flew cobat with VMF-323 on Jume 5th, 6th, and 11th of 1952, flying F4U-4B's against places like Soksadong, and Kwangtam-Ri. Following that he was transferred to VMF-312. His log books describe two of the strikes as "rail cut" which I'm supposing was the bombing of railroads.

During WWII he was assigned to VMF-221 aboard the USS Bunker Hill flying F4U-1D's during the 1945 cruise to Okinawa. He had three recorded kills/assists prior to being shot down in late April, 1945. He was returned aboard the USS Bunker Hill just prior to her being struck by two Kamikazes (which put the ship out of the war). He survived to fly helicopters until the late 1960's when he lost his like if a helicopter accident in New Zealand.

I'd like to hear from anyone who was flying for VMF-323 during June of 1952, and definately anyone who had contact with my uncle during the Korean War. Thanks,

Rob Mears
