He named two AD-4 Skyraider aircraft. One he named 'HELEN for my mother. The other was named BABY SHARON for me. I was 8 months old when he left for Korea. Our family's collective memory is that one of the planes was shot down. But we don't know which one. Is there a way to research this? My father died in September 1973. Anyone that remembers Lt Jensen I would be glad to hear from them. I served as a CW2 Army helicopter pilot in Vietnam 1967-68. Uncle Perry was always my idol because he flew combat which I was able to do also some 18 years later and was also awarded a DFC for Hill 875 during the Battle of Dakto 1967. Was aviation metalsmith. Our most daring pilots were M/Sgt Evans and a Lieutenant?. They bought our tinsmith shop a case of Asahi when they dropped their loads too low and received battle damage that we tinbenders had to fix. A great softball athlete "Timmer"? took VMA 121 to Fifth Air Force Championships. Forget most names but Nye was NCOIC of metalshop. For some reason food rations changed from USMC to Army and food became more scarce. It had been eat all you want and changed to two slices of bread etc. We had cold storage eggs dating back to the mid 1940's. The messduty people would break an egg into a bowl and if it was green, it was discarded. Good looking eggs were put in the good egg pot to be cooked for breakfast. I attended a NCO school at K-3 for three or four weeks but forget all the names. VMA 121 had a Personel Sergeant called Ski. I remember Bobo Phalen, a mechanic who had been in my unit at Cherry Point. A Red Fallon from Ohio, was the brother of a Cherry Point friend and became a member of VMA 121. Jesse Rocket was NCOIC of the metalshop for awhile. Two friends were members of a sister squadron of AD's in our MAG. Bud Hamilton and Red Kineary and myself had 27 great days at Treasure Island. Make the 0800 formation, then sleep, then make the 1600 formation and head for San Francisco again. The Marine Memorial Club on Sutter and Mason was our starting point usually. A very nice Chinese girl tended bar. I think Lucky Lager cost a quarter at the time. Great memories.
