Comments: My uncle - Robert Okeefe - was in Baker Company, 7th Marines. He was wounded March 11, 51 and was hospitalized about four months. He has never known where he was when he was wounded. He does not have internet access and asked me to find out if I could. Can anyone tell me where I can find this information. Bob lives in Toledo, OH. Thank You Paul Frye

Comments: Let me add a few notes to the history of the Company. I arrived with the 11th draft in the summer of 1951 after our company was pulled from the new 3d Brigade in Pendelton. My job was radio operator (zero training). We had several radio operators (who also doubled as linemen). The names I recall were Charlie Butler, a midwestern farmer who could do just about anything, Kaufmann, Sice, Lenny (?), Merle (?) along with Brown and Truxal. The latter two were best know for their proclivities at getting busted. Sice is an interesting guy, Navaho I believe. A well educated Silver Star recipient. The regimental call sign was WINE. We were WINE MESS and there was WINE BOTTLE, WINE CELLAR and so forth. Very secret stuff. If you really had to send something encrypted, the CO had a one-time pad that could be used, but I don't recall ever needing it. Our CO was 1st Lt. William Dyroff from Buffalo, the ExO was always called Mr. Bob and the 75's were led by a second lieutenant whose father was editor of the old Colliers magazine. I can't remember his name but his aloofness stuck with me. The only thing that sticks in my mind about the Gunny was his thirst. We had a cook named Putt (I have his picture in front of Putt's Diner)who almost blew up the whole camp making donuts once while we were in reserve. We also had a pipe smoking corpsman (named Doc of course) who soothed my banged up arm with a small bottle of brandy. One unforgettable character I met early on was named Jessie Deeson from Oklahoma. He told me never to use his name. I was to always call him "hog eyes". If we begged he'd play the Spanish Fandango on his guitar. I have pictures showing the gunners sighting the 75's in some God-forsaken valley and a few shots of the tanks up on those incredible east coast mountains in the winter. The many Koreans who showed their appreciation at the dedication of the Korean War Memorial changed my thinking about whether or not we really made a difference.

Keywords: I am looking for a marine corp by the name of Mackrell or commonly known as Mokoi in our native language. Mackrell was a Marine Corp who came to Samoa in the South Pacific in the 1940s. He was a tanker. It assumed that he was a member of the 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Division, although there is a possibility that he was a member of the 3rd Marine Division. Please if there is any Marine Corp who travelled to Samoa in the South Pacific in the 1940s I am so desperate to find out any information. Please contact me at this email address. Sasae.Walter@samoa.ws I will appreciate any information.
Thank you.

On my 2nd tour to Korea I was a tank commander in Anti-Tank Co. 7th
Marine Rgt. [ 1st tour was in A Co. 1st Tank Bn.]. Looking for all
tankers & 75mm Recoiless Rifle Pltn [Reckless Rifles] whom may recall
the football games vs staff/officers in 1953. Our field was over the
hump of 2/7 in Samichon valley. Anyone remember day our chowhall blew up
time one tanker got a "dear john" and tried to commit suicide, thanks to
CO Capt Saunders, he defused situation. How about Marlex III when 90 day
wonder lost tank #73, sunk to oceanbottom trying return to LCM of some
gook isle in Yellow Sea. There was never a dull moment in that bastard
outfit 7th AT"s near "The Hook" and Limey sector. One last gem, bunch of
gook peasants demanded we vacate our CP, so they could return to their
village site; plus, they angrily didn"t like their temple turned into
our Ammo dump . Capt. Saunders told gooks, to their teeth, to go back to
their hobo village up the road- if not - he will march his AT-7 Marines
with fixed bayonets and route these ungrateful gook bastards to North
Goonyland. Yes, these were just some of the macabre day to day incidents
in the asshole of the world - KOREA -. Thank God, the CORPS started R&R
to Japan to ease our nerves.
