H/3/7 Seeking James LaRance

Comments: For his father, Cpl. George Brodeur, originally from Worcester, Mass., Gary Brodeur writes: I'd like to contact James LaRance of Montana. We were wounded by shrapnel from the same mortar round in Aug.-Sept. 1950. I shipped to Korea with the 1st Provisional Marine regiment 11 July 1950. Landed at Inchon with A Company, 1st SP Btn., then volunteered for duty with H/3/7 prior to the Chosin Reservoir engagement. Fought there and at Wonson. Decorated with Purple Heart twice. Left Korea for medical care in Japan for the second time in Sept. 1950, and returned to Camp Pendelton. Keywords: My father Served from Feb 1, 1952 to Jan. 11, 1953. I'd like to hear form people he served with and learn more about his combat experiences in this unit. He was selected to represent the 1st Marine Copr in Ike's inaguaral parade and carried thier colors as shown in the picture on the cover of the Washington Post. He was also stationed onboard the CA-148 USS Newport News, from Feb 1 to July 11, 1951.

Comments: any I/3/7 recall the incident when item was on hill (A FEW DAYS B4 we reached the reservoir)I was returning to cp from bn area -when 3 marines from the co. came yelling and pointing behind me? I turned and faced 2 chinese -who (thankfully) wanted to surrender.One was older and had served in old nationalist army.He seemed to know he would be ok w/americans and immed asked for a smoke.The other was a tall mongolian and really scared.we took 2 thompson subs w drum mags from them. I believe those marines were from ist platoon-not sure

Comments: Am looking for anyone that served w/my Dad, Darrell Derrington. He was a Sergeant in Item Company, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He served in Korea from about 2/51 until 9/51. Was bodyguard to Colonel Nickerson until about 4/51, at that time he was transfered to Item Company. Was injured on or about Sept. 1, 1951 on Hill 800.

Comments: My brother was wounded and it has taken many years for him to feel comfortable in seeking information, but resently he has made contact with guys he knew at LeJune and they have gotten together and really enjoyed talking about the past. .

Comments: My father, Wayne A. Snowden (deceased,1986) was a Navy Corpsman attached to I-3-7th Marines. He arrived Korea on troop ship "USS Gen.Randall" with a unit of 45 other corpsmen. He joined I-3-7 in early March 1951. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who remembers my Dad and can give me any info about the unit and men with which he served. Some of the other corpsmen he mentioned are: Harold Gayle (KIA?),Samuel Spencer, Noel Qualls, Ralph Watts, Pete Barnes, James Morton.

Looking for Jack Carman. He was assigned as a mechanic in motorpool. Was also a photographer. Quite good at running a still too.

Also looking for "Chick" Henderson. Named such for his small stature. Possibly grouped with those under age 18 who missed Inchon and Chosin.

Comments: Trying to locate any friends of my dad, Canio "Moose" Dan Pisani. He was wounded in Korea about Feb/March, 1953 after only 13 days on the lines. Have letter signed by Sgt. George Karakhanian - "H" Co 3rd Bn 7th Marines 1st Marine Div F.M.F. dated 3/12/53. Boot camp Paris Island. After being wounded, he was stationed in Camp Penalton as an MP. William J Fano died July 14, 1953

Comments: My father's uncle, William J Fano died July 14, 1953 in the Korean War at the age of 24. Due to pathetic interest from family, nobody knows much about his military history. My brother and brother-in-law are in the Marines which has sparked interest in our desire to find out more about this remarkable man. William's family has lost his medals, one of which we are told may be a silver star. To my surprise I found him here listed among the killed in action and was happy to see he was provided with some form of recognition for his service to our country. Thank you!
