Comments: I've posted previously. I just saw Hal on History Detectives, today.
Prompted me to check for WIA records of my father William T. Farrar, Jr.
I have copies of his service record which I obtained from SecNav. Dad was a member of Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines. He fought at Pusan, Wonsan, Inchon, Chosin and was wounded three times. The last time quite seriously at Hwanchon (spelling) Dam/Reservoir with a 61mm mortar landed between his legs as he dove for cover, serious wounds to leg and scrotum, they picked shrapnel out of his legs for the next 11 years,he died May 1962 on the operating table at Camp Pendleton.
What concerns me is that his name does not show up on the Korean War Project's list of WIA's, although he was awarded three purple hearts (first two were minor including one in the hand), his personnel records do show the three purple hearts.
He was also the adjutant (W.O.) of the 1st Joint Assault Signal Company 4th FMF, when it assaulted Roi Namur, Saipan and Tinian.
After Roi Namur the 4th FMF was rolled into the newly formed 5th Amphib

Comments: I'm in process of updated family information in form of my personal memoirs and Bill was my uncle and godfather. I was ten when he was KIA in 1950 and was pretty close to him. However, the only information I have on his death comes via word of mouth from his mother and siblings (all now deceased)and what appears to be his final correspondense to his mother (my grandmother) from Korea, dated November 12, 1950. if anyone has any information about him during his time as an active reservist or his short time on active duty, it would be very much appreciated. He has always been and always will be our family's personal HERO! Thanks.

RESEARCHING MY FATHER |

 |
PATRICK CARNEY wrote on 2003-10-13 01:06:48.0
Comments: I am currently researching my father's military career in order to design a plaque in his honor. His name was Cpl. Richard Thomas Carney. Trained at Parris Island Jan 51-Apl 51 (Second Recruit Battalion, Platoon 116, "Honor Platoon") Sent to Camp Pendleton until shipped to Korea in I believe july of 51 until october of 1952. His current plaque shows 1st marine division, 7th regiment, 2nd battalion, E and H&S companies. I had always heard he was a radioman. I would love to know if anyone can confirm this and also the time periods when he was in E company and when he was in H&S company. If anyone remembers him, and the hills and places he was at, it would be great to hear from you. Thank you all for your time.

FOR WHAT EVER REASON DOD STOPPED PUBLISHING ANY ACTION REPORTS ON KOREA AFTER JAN 1953 THE ONLY THING THAT CAME OUT WAS "OPERATION LITTLE SWITCH" AND "BIG SWITCH" AND WHEN THE IST MAR DIVISION CAME HOME IN MARCH 1955, THAT WAS WHEN THE KOREAN WAR REALLY BECAME FORGOTTEN. I know there is a silence to the Korean War - I know that most of my generation isn't aware of what you went through. My Dad doesn't say much either. I just wanted everyone here to know - and especially my Dad - how much I apprecaite what you did for us; how much I appreciate the sacrafice of those who didn't come home. Also, to the boys who are out there now. God Bless you all. Les Riordan

Comments: So.
Two days after my 64th birthday, here comes the snow. Biggest blizzard since '96, fourth biggest in recorded New York history. Twenty-one, maybe 22 inches. It's a holiday morning, so I sleep in, with wife and dogs, then get up, make a hot breakfast, and go out to shovel snow. I do the back door first, so the dogs have a place to conduct bidniz, then head to the front. By the time I get our sidewalk joined up with our neighbor's, I feel that I should drive a golden spike or something to commemorate the event. Then I slog down the block to where (I think) the car is buried, and start to dig out. Despite (or perhaps because of) help from two neighborhood kids, whom I pay less than the want for more than they do (the American way!), this takes pretty nearly all afternoon. Knowing I'll just have it all to do again tomorrow, but in hope that it'll be easier for what I do today, I call it off about dusk, and go back in the house. Fix myself a big rum toddy, start up a big pot o' chili, feed the dogs, go down to the study, sit down in my chair with the dogs at my feet (sort of), look up at the 1:250,000-scale map of Northeast Korea that's been on my wall for ten years now, along with a photo of the gravestone, in Kennesaw National Cemetery, of Cpl Lee H. Phillips, USMC, MOH, Feb 3, 1930 - Nov 27, 1950, and think: God, this is easy.

Kipp was killed in action on 6 Dec.1950 somewhere on the road from Hagaru to Koto Ri. Sgt.Kipp was my mother's first husband and she still misses him very much. Every memorial day I take her to his grave to honor his memory and her pain over his death is still very evident.
I am familiar with some of the events reguarding his time in korea but not to many particulars. I do know that he was awarded the Silver Star and that he was a squad leader in F/2/7. Even though I am not related to Sgt. Kipp, as a child, I grew up with his memory.

My father, Matt Davis III, served in Dog Co, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, from November 1950 to September 1951. The Chosin Reservoir Campaign so thoroughly wiped out Dog and Easy Companies that they were combined into the Dog-Easy *Platoon*. There are a few other members of D-2-7 on this forum; if anyone is searching for info on anyone who served in Dog. Co, please do a search on Thomas Cassis, George Crotts, or Richard Humphreys, and email them. D-2-7 has reunions every year, around late Sept. or Oct. For more info, email one of the above men.

Comments: John Roseland, my neighbor, was wounded at the Punchbowl while serving in the USMC. He believes he was wounded on September 13, 1951, possibly the 12th. He was a BAR man when he was hit by shrapnel in the arm and leg. After many months in a hospital in Japan, he returned home and on ship met up with others from Easy Company. He mentions Sutton, Simmons, and Bob Ogden. John would like to know what hill he was on when he was wounded, he believes it to be 749 but is not sure. He was wounded around the midnight hour and the rest is a blur. If any of his buddies are out there and can remember John I would like you to contact me. John has been trying to write down his experiences and knows little or nothing about the buddies he left behind when he was wounded. My hat is off to you vets who served our country so well. Thank you just does not seem enough.......Myles Dymacek, Lincoln, Nebraska

Comments: My Dad. Corporal Thomas Witchek, was at Inchon and Chosin. He was with the 2nd. Bn. 7th. Mar., then he was with the 1st Bn. 7th. Mar., and then the 3rd. Bn. 7th. Mar. I am not sure what Bn. he was with at the Chosin but he was one of only six in his company that made it through. I also know he was in the 1st Mar. Div., Reinforced...if that is different from the above I have no idea. He was only 16 when he enlisted and only a little over 20 when he came home.
My Dad has passed and I am looking for anyone who might have known him or any information about what was going on when he was there. Putting together information helps with the grief and makes me realize more and more why I am so proud to be his daughter. I am in awe that he carried his patriotism, a strong bond to the men who fought with him and the Corp, and a genuine concern for the children who had to suffer the actions of adults over there all of his life.
For anyone who has time...interestingly my Dad had been injured and had shrapnel in his back. In the late 80's some of it moved and became infected. He only allowed his Dr. to remove the shrapnel that was causing him problem. I have heard other stories of the same. My uncle, who is also passed, had some sharpnel in his face his entire life as well, never to have it removed...and when we would go with him to sit around with some of his war 'cronies' several of them said they also kept their shrapnel. Of course when I was younger I never thought to ask...but my question now is ...why?
Thank you and God's Peace!
Keywords: I would like to thank every man who fought to make sure my family, and other families, were safe. You put your lives on the line every moment 'just because' and I realize your tremendous gift every time I kiss my children goodnight. God's Peace to you all!

Comments: Hello. Thanks for reading this. I am the, well, great niece, I suppose of a man who was killed during the Korean war. My Grandmother (his sister), is very interested in finding information about him. I was showing her the computer and how you can find information about people, and things, and she instantly was very curious about her brother, Leo Henkenius. He was killed in action (however, nobody knows anything about him.) Apparently it occured around the Chosin Reservoir near Yudam Ni. She's very interested in hearing from anyone who knew him, or anything about him. Thank you so much. E-mail at Happy3333@aol.com

Well as you can see I'm still exploring the Site.
I'm looking for: Kenneth Taylor, USMCR. Originally from Little Rock,
Arkansas.
He was a wireman in H&S/2/7. Last known rank was Cpl.
He was with me at Camp Penelton and we made Wonson all the way up to
the big icerink "The Frozen Chosin".
I last saw him down south near the 38th in Sept.51 before I came back
to the states. I would like to hear form him if he is still around.

I am the daughter of a Korean War vet, Matt M. Davis III, USMC D/2/7.
12 years ago, I located a bunch of men from his company, using 1950
addresses. They now have a reunion each year.
My dad is a Chosin Reservoir veteran, and he belongs to the Chosin Few
(I've also attended a few of those meetings.)
Let me know how I could be of help. My dad has a lot of the old 1st
Marine Division Assn. newsletters, as well as almost all the Chosin
Few newsletters. He's a regular at the VA hospital in San Antonio,
Texas (i.e., I could potentially contact quite a number of people.)
I don't have much experience in html or programming, but I do have
experience in finding people.

Checked out your maps and printed copies of "my" war - Nov 4 -
Dec 6 at and around Chosin Res.
I'm secretary of the Dog Seven Association. We're about 450
"active" members and have "found" some 600 of our former
D/2/7 brothers. Only 1400 to go.Again, great site.
