Comments: Cousin William Buhle left the corps as a Gunny Sergeant after what I believe was 12 to 14 years. He made the march from the frozen Chosen in Korea. I am just curious, he passed on a couple of years ago. I do know he was residing in Virginia with his wife of many years (BOBBY) when he passed on..

He was nicknamed the 3/4 sized Marine and he later commissioned from the ranks at Quantico graduating in the top 10% of his class and receiving a regular commission.

Also Purple Heart on Palau -Caroline islands, October 1944 . Also, Presidential Unit Citation, for action in Korea, 1950.
My father loved the Corps but sadly, never spoke about his service. As a poor Georgia farmboy he said the Marine Corps recruiting poster was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He came back the next day, lied about his age and signed up.

1st Marine Div, Wpns co, the 81mm mortors. His name
is Richard "Dick" Shock. He was there from 19 June
1953 until 3 Aug 1954. He ended up being Platoon
leader. He remembers a name "Massy" and Lt Goich. He
told me that he volinteerd to scout out an enemy post
when he was captured. He was takin to a camp and was
there for around a month. He and two others worked on
a knife that my dad had in his boot they did find.
They sharped it for a month he said and his and two
others killed two gards and escaped. This has never
been documented. He was a POW. He doesnt remember the
names of the other two guys or if they made it out
alive. They split up and went differant directions to
throw them off. I need info on this and anyone that

Comments: I've posted previously. I just saw Hal on History
Detectives, today.

Prompted me to check for WIA records of my father
William T. Farrar, Jr.

I have copies of his service record which I obtained
from SecNav. Dad was a member of Alpha Company, 2nd
Battalion, 7th Marines. He fought at Pusan, Wonsan,
Inchon, Chosin and was wounded three times. The last
time quite seriously at Hwanchon (spelling)
Dam/Reservoir with a 61mm mortar landed between his
legs as he dove for cover, serious wounds to leg and
scrotum, they picked shrapnel out of his legs for the
next 11 years,he died May 1962 on the operating table
at Camp Pendleton.

What concerns me is that his name does not show up on
the Korean War Project's list of WIA's, although he was
awarded three purple hearts (first two were minor
including one in the hand), his personnel records do
show the three purple hearts.

He was also the adjutant (W.O.) of the 1st Joint
Assault Signal Company 4th FMF, when it assaulted Roi
Namur, Saipan and Tinian.

After Roi Namur the 4th FMF was rolled into the newly
formed 5th Amphib

Service or Relationship: MARINE VETERAN

Comments: Im writing this for my father who is trying to find any Marines that he served with in Korea that still may be living.
PFC Arnold Curley was in the 34th draft in Fox 2/7 around June of 53. He was 17 at the time and was removed from the unit before Boulder city and sent to Guam. He returned to Fox 2/7 in Nov of 53 when he turned 18. My father is looking for anyone from the 34th draft and any one in Fox 2/7 June 53 to when Fox 2/7 left Korea.

Comments: I grew up hearing about Yancey, Clements, Phillips and places like Yudam-ni, Toktong pass. all medals, citations, etc. were lost in a house fire. i remember looking at those treasures when i was a kid, sneaking into a cedar chest. Dad never showed any of that to me. I would like contact with anyone who might remember Dad. Also, before Korea he played football with an NCO team--navy. there were pictures and a letter jacket

He is very, very ill with cancer and is very quickly losing his memory and recognition of people. Even if he does not remember me, I tell him stories of his life so he can try and remember. He is quickly forgetting these important years of his life and is desperate to remember. I would greatly appreciate any information anyone may have.
