Comments: Please I also was awarded a purple heart, I need to know if anyone remembers that? I have no proof. All my medals were destroyed in a fire.I would appreciate it, if anyone knew how I could find out, to replace it.I have tried and asked the VA for two years and they say they have no proof,as all the military records were destroyed, in a fire. And, that it was too long ago, to do anything about it now.So, I'm at a dead end....

Thanks:

Virgil Sparks Jr.

Comments: I acquired a Purple Heart medal, photos, and letters belonging to PFC Purk (originally from Dayton, Ohio), which states he was in C Company, 1/7 Marines and was wounded in action on 18 January 1968 near Quang Nam. His medal will become part of my museum displays, and I would like to learn more about him if anyone knew/fought with him.

THOR AND DONNA THORSON wrote on 2003-08-01 11:48:28.0

Comments: I am writing to you in hopes anyone can provide information on the Nov 4 1951 battles. My uncle Donald Turner was with the 14th infantry and was killed November 4, 1951. Any help is much appreciated.

A Marine from either either 5th Battalion 7th Regiment or 1st Battalion 7th Regiment confirmed the following story to John C. Cheek and he has included it in his book Stay Safe Buddy.

According to A letter sent to my grand parents he was killed manning twin 50’s when he couldn’t raise the gun height enough to shoot over the bodies of the enemy and they were over run. It also spoke of the Chinese wrapping their bodies with ace bandage like material so that even if you hit them it wouldn’t bring them down.

My Dad was never able to talk about his favorite brother and we would like to keep the family history intact.

My Dad survived 30+ years in the Military with two tours of Vietnam after Korea. He spent the Winter of 1950-51 at the Chosen Res. His name was Rhodes Wayne Harper (Wayne) and was a machine gunner with the 1st Batt. 7th Marines. Wondering if anyone knew him then. He would have been about 21 years old at CHosen. Tim

Comments: Posting for my beloved Father. Need someone to tell me about his units. He told me as a child to remember FOX and DOG. I was 10yrs old and asked him if he dug like a dog and his answer was "no but we lived like dogs". I never knew until these past months what he meant. His papers with his purple heart notification says 1/3/5 but from all my reading and his statement to me as a child indicates he was "attached" to "DOG or FOX". Does anybody out there remember a tall middle aged man with a moustache and good sense of humor that could drink a fish under the table? Was Veteran of WWII(Raider 4th battalion) have pictures of the men listed below but dated in 53. Following paper trail that indicates he went to the 3rd div,1st battalion,4th marines. He left the Marines in Camp LeJeune in 1956 and left this world in 1963. God Bless the USMC and each of you boys that went to that Hell Hole.

Then transfered to the UN & ROK HONOR GUARD 8230TH Army Unit where he guarded Gen. Chesty Puller and Gen. Maxwell Taylor. Comments: PLEASE HELP ME FIND HIM.

Keywords: The Corpsman needed help carrying a Marine whose left leg had been blown-off at the thigh. We carried him down the hill, across the rice paddy, through the wire to a medical truck. He called-out "I don't want to die" over and over. This Marine was about six feet two inches tall, about 180 pounds, and spoke with a northern metropolitan accent. We told him that he wasn't going to die, and that he was going home now. We didn't have our names on our uniforms in those days. I didn't get his name. I had to carry more ammo and water up the hill again. It would be more than comforting to know that he survived. It was a brief encounter, but it is engraved in my memory forever.

Comments: My father passed away November 13, 1999. I spent 10 years in the Corps (my first duty assignment was HqCo, HqBn 1st Marine Division). I am interested in conversing with anyone who may have known my father and could share memories of your time in Korea together--historical and personal. My father arrived in A/1/7 Korea in February 1952 and left Korea for the Philippines in 1953. In particular, the battle on May 28, 1952 would be of some interest. Also, interested in finding out the meaning of a word that my father said several times during his last hours.

Comments: I am searching for Charles Alfonso Gomez who fought in the second world war. He was a Marine in Western Samoa in 1942-43 (?). I am sure that he was a 7th Marine, 1st division. If anyone has any information about Charles A Gomez, or any of his family, please e-mail me at the above e-mail address. I would really like to know if there is anyone out there who knows or knew Charles and what happened to him.

Thank-you, ddhoward@hotmail.com

Comments: My step-father, Robert C. Cameron served as a forward observer with Baker Co./7 at Yudam-ni during the Chosin Reservoir Campaign in 1950. He is 78 years old now and is still in fairly good health, however he is suffering from dementia, and has trouble remembering all the events of the war. His base unit was Item-3-11, but as an F.O. was assigned to Baker/7 and also the ROK Marines. My dad has said he would like to hear from the Marines who fought along side him at Chosin. Thank you.
