TRYING TO VERIFY A VETS UNIT |
| DENNIS BOLDE wrote on August 19, 2011 CITY AND STATE: UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: MARINE VETERAN Comments: I am trying to see if I can locate anyone who might remember a William "Bill" Faulkner from the 7th. I am a Marine Vet and Paramedic, Mr. Faulker is a patient that I have made a connection with and have begun to visit on my off days. We have a great time and even on is bad days he remembers only me as his "Marine Buddy" even when he cant recall much else. He has trouble here and there and is only able to communicate to me that he was in the 32nd Inf and 7th Inf in Korea. I am assuming he means the 7th Inf Div and the 32 Inf Reg of the Army. His eyes light up everytime we speak about Korea and I would love to bring some history for him the next time I make a visit. Here is the problem, his sons say he is a Marine but I can find no history of unit with the 32nd designation in the Marine Archives. The 7th Marine Reg is all I can locate, but with no 32nd anything to be found elsewhere. If anyone might be able to help it would be greatly appreciated. We communicate mostly through short sentences and pointing so it can be tough to get focused in on the details. Regardless of him being a Marine or not he wants to talk about it and I'd love to help him, he has become a good friend to me. By the way, even though we have our communication issues, I went for a visit the other day and he was on the roof cleaning off the leaves, he had also cut the lawn, 1 and 1/2 acres, here's the kicker we live in Florida and the Heat index was 108 that day. SSGT Ullmann was my great uncle. I am trying to find information for our family and SSGT Ullmann's surviving sister, Ruth. We know very little about his time in country, his activities or his friends in the Marine Corp. We would like information on the circumstances surrounding his death. He was MIA for nine months (missing July 19, 1953). He was later confirmed KIA on July 19, 1953. He served with distiction and was wounded six separate times, but returned to fight the enemy. My uncle was an excellent Marine. Please help us learn more about his service by passing this request along to any one you think could help. SSGT Ullmann was originally from Wyckoff NJ. | EDDIE H. ARECHIGA SR. wrote on May 4, 2009 CITY AND STATE: ELK GROVE CA UNIT: A CO., 1STBN, 7TH MARINES, 1ST MARDIV SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: MARINE VETERAN Comments: I am the former Squad Leader of Haffey's Squad. He was at my side during the attack up Hill 104 and he never wavered as we ran up the hill through intense enemy automatic fire and mortars. Sgt. Robert F. Touchette was hit and fell exposed to enemy fire. He would be dead as soon as the Chinese spotted him. I called to Haffey and we ran out under incredible heavy enemy fire to retrieve Touchette. We got to him and dragged him to a nearby hole. He was in bad shape. Haffey and I ran back to the fight and the enemy machine gunners in a bunker spotted us. They open up on us and I made it back to our original position. Haffey was cut down by the enemy fire. He died instantly. He was one brave and tenactious Marine. Touichette was awarded a Medal but Haffey never received a single award despite the fact that he gave his life to save Touchette. FLAME DRAGONS OF THE KOREAN WAR |
| JACK CARTY wrote on October 2, 2004 CITY AND STATE: HADDONFIELD NJ UNIT: FLAME PLATOON, HEADQUARTERS COMPANY, FIRST TANK BA SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: MARINE VETERAN - KOREA Comments: Comments: Flame Dragons of the Korean war is a new book detailing the history of the Flame Platoon, Headquarters Company, First Tank Battalion, First Marine Division. This 344-page, 6x9 hardbound account of a little-known Marine Corps unit details the Platoon's activities from the landing at Wolmi-do prior to the Inchon Invasion on 15 Sept 50 to the cease fire 27 July 53. Co-authored by Flame Tankers Jerry Ravino and Jack Carty, and produced by Turner Publishing Company, Flame Dragons is a first-hand account of how the nine specialized twin-barreled Sherman Tanks spread havoc with their flame guns, and launched devastating artillery with their 105mm howitzers. It is recalled, not only by members of the Flame Platoon, but tankers from other units within the First Tank Battalion and fellow Gyrenes from the Seventh Marines and Fifth Marines who bore witness to it in the trenches and outposts during the three years of the conflict in the Land of the Morning Calm. Combat, fear, death and bravery often were anything but calm among these Marines who shared their personal experiences in this historical revelation. More than 180 pictures, mostly originals from scrapbooks of tankers, supplement the oratory which is supported by declassified records and told within a general history of First Marine Division activity in the war. Flame Dragons of the Korean War retails for $27.95, plus $3.05 shipping. It is available by sending a check or money order to Flames Dragons, P.O. Box 102, Barrington NJ 08007. Excerpts may be reviewed at www.flamedragons.com where Jerry Ravino or Jack Carty also may be contacted. Keywords: |
