Comments: I am looking for contacts/old buddies for my grandfather, Marine PFC. Marvin D Marvel, might have gone by "Captain." Marvin served in the Marines from 1949 until 1952. He was wounded on 11-28-1950 and received a Purple Heart for his wounds.

At a point, Marvin served with 1st Provisional Marine Brigade, Korea 1950 with Brigade A.

He served as a Drill Instructor at Parris Island, prior to being sent to Korea.

He passed away and is/has been my absolute personal hero. I would like to communicate with any other Marine who may have served with him.

Thank you

Arthur Reid wrote on 2008-11-17 21:19:06.0

Comments: It was my privilege to serve with some of the best and bravest men I have ever had the honor of knowing. Cpl. Daniel Ballem was one of my best friends. He lost his life trying to pull our wounded platoon leader, Lt. Charles Cooper, out of the line of fire on Hill 907. The list is long of the KIA and WIA who served with honor and courage. I was in the first squad, third platoon, of B (Baker) Company, 5th Marines. Our Officers and Platoon Sergeants were mainly WW2 vets who knew how to lead against the N. Korean and Chinese we came up against. We were fortunate to have such dedicated Marines as our leaders.

Keywords: Hill 907 and a number of others. I would like to pay tribute to Cpl. Wilfred Jaussaud, a WW2 vet of Saipan and Tinian, who took a number of us young and inexperienced Marines under his wing and taught us how to do what we were sent to Korea to do. He came through WW2 without a scratch and was wounded twice in Korea - his last wound sent him home.

Comments: My father, Jesse F. McCloud, passed away on July 1, 2004 just 3 months after my youngest daughter was born. It was a tremendous blow to the entire family, my middle child took it very badly. His grandfather was not only his best buddy but his hero too. My father served in both Korea and Viet Nam, 5th Marine Regiment 1st Bn. I would greatly appreciate any knowledge, stories, information that anyone could provide for me about my father. He didn't talk about his time in the Service and when he got out he worked a lot to support the family he so loved so I have nothing to tell my kids about their granddaddy. I need to know about my father and I need to be able to tell my kids about him too; please help if you can. Thank you and God bless all of our service men and women.

Comments: I am looking for anyone who may have served with my father William Lewis Kelley in Korea. He was wounded twice. His family was living in Elmira NY at the time he enlisted. He spoke little about Korea until he was dying of leukemia last year.

I have photos taken of him and several friends from training at Camp Pendleton, from Korea, and from some rowdy R&R in Japan. ;-)

I am a disabled former Marine myself and am looking to fill in the gaps in my understanding of my father.

Any help would be appreciated.
