Cpl. Daniel Ballem was one of my best friends. He lost his life trying to pull our wounded platoon leader, Lt. Charles Cooper, out of the line of fire on Hill 907. The list is long of the KIA and WIA who served with honor and courage. I was in the first squad, third platoon, of B (Baker) Company, 5th Marines. Our Officers and Platoon Sergeants were mainly WW2 vets who knew how to lead against the N. Korean and Chinese we came up against. We were fortunate to have such dedicated Marines as our leaders. Keywords: Hill 907 and a number of others. I would like to pay tribute to Cpl. MY DAD |
| JESSE MCCLOUD wrote on August 28, 2008 CITY AND STATE: HAYDEN AL UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: My father, Jesse F. McCloud, passed away on July 1, 2004 just 3 months after my youngest daughter was born. It was a tremendous blow to the entire family, my middle child took it very badly. His grandfather was not only his best buddy but his hero too. My father served in both Korea and Viet Nam, 5th Marine Regiment 1st Bn. I would greatly appreciate any knowledge, stories, information that anyone could provide for me about my father. He didn't talk about his time in the Service and when he got out he worked a lot to support the family he so loved so I have nothing to tell my kids about their granddaddy. I need to know about my father and I need to be able to tell my kids about him too; please help if you can. Thank you and God bless all of our service men and women. ABLE COMPANY !ST BATT 5TH MARINES |
| RICHARD KELLEY wrote on August 26, 2008 CITY AND STATE: LEBANON IL UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: MARINE VETERAN Comments: I am looking for anyone who may have served with my father William Lewis Kelley in Korea. He was wounded twice. His family was living in Elmira NY at the time he enlisted. He spoke little about Korea until he was dying of leukemia last year. I have photos taken of him and several friends from training at Camp Pendleton, from Korea, and from some rowdy R and R in Japan. ;-) I am a disabled former Marine myself and am looking to fill in the gaps in my understanding of my father. Any help would be appreciated. Semper Fi !! Keywords: Able Company 1st Bat 5th Marines |
