He told me he was the Marine in the picture that Duncon took - the famous one, of a Marine holding a "C" can looking up at the sky. It is Bob - I am sure. It was taken in the Chosin Res. area. The last I heard Bob moved to San Fransico. I would like to locate him so we could have the photo offically deicated to him. I have located Mr. Ducan and his collecton of photgraphs and negatives. I am tired of seeing this photograph shown and Bob not give credit. Any info would help. Thanks, Al

Comments: Looking for a Captain Matthews. I last saw him when our unit was relieving the 5th Marines on the line. This was either in 1952 or early 1953. Ran into him when I inquired at the command bunker about where the forward observer bunker was. Captain Mathews had been a school teacher of mine in Maricopa, California before being called up for the Korean War. Have wondered many times what may have become of him. Was a hell of a man and Marine.

Sgt. Nils V. Ingemansson
On Fri, 28 Aug 1998
Lars-Erik Börjesson Email address wrote:
Hi!
I found this article, from a newspaper:
Sgt. Nils V. Ingemansson, attached to Fourth Recruit Training Battalion
here at the Depot, will receive the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism
while serving as a squad leader with the Fifth Marines, 1st Marine
Division, in Korea on September 6 and 7, 1952.
His citation reads, in part, as follows: "When his unit was attacked by
numerically superior hostile forces while defending a combat outpost
well in advance of the main line of resistance. Sgt. Ingemansson bravely
took up a position on top of a bunker in the face of an intense hostile
artillery and mortar barrage and delivered devastating fire upon the
attackers to prevent the enemy from penetrating his sector of the
perimeter, personally killing 15 of the enemy with rifle fire and
dispersing many others with hand grenades. Sergeant Ingemansson was
directly instrumental in the successful defense of the entire position."
and it showed to be my grandmother's brother.
Is this correct?

thank you for your timely reply. i spoke to my dad and unfortunatly
he does not remember the unit. he called a few remaining buddies
and they were not too much help either. but one of them who was
in the 7th seems to think he was in the 5th and not the 7th.
Hopefully something will come up soon, as pop has been reuniting himself
with as many ''old soldiers'' as he can find. also i failed to give you
my fathers phone number, (718) 381-4392.
Thanks again, hope to hear some news soon.

He received the Silver Star for his actions in Korea. Would appreciate
