Billy Warner- POW during Chosin

Kathy Tufano wrote on 2006-07-30 15:18:08.0

Comments: My father, SGT Billy M. Warner, was taken POW during Nov. at the Chosin Resivor Battle. He never talked about this until close to his death, and then he let me know that he would like to receive the POW medal. We cannot document this since I am told his records were burned in the fire that destroyed several years. There was another Marine take POW at the same time and location. If anyone knew my father during that time - or the man with him - please contact me.

However, he was a POW at one time during the war. After that, he came back to the area of Wayland, NY and married my mother. I know there was a newspaper article about his release, but I never saw it. I would appreciate any advice on how to find out more about his being a POW. Thanks.

Comments: My "Uncle Kenny", Kenneth Freer served in the Marine Corps. Infantry in Korea. He is a private person and doesn't talk very much about the war. All he has really told me is that he and a buddy were wounded when two grenades were thrown at them and they could only grab one of them to throw back. He has also said that he loved the sound of P-51s flying overhead, "that's a nice sound". My uncle Kenny is a wonderful man, he is soft spoken and always very kind, He is the nicest man that I have ever known. We learned that he is dying of cancer about 3 weeks ago (July 2004). Comments: Marine L. Cpl. Billy E. Brown is my aunts only brother who was killed in action. She has been talking about gathering any pictures or even chat to any former marines that might have know who her brother was. I have jumped started the process by sending in her info to get copies of DD-214, and his record. If anyone knew Billy or was in the same outfit please let me know. Thanks, RED

Comments: Hello, I am trying to get information on my Father who served as a Captain in the USMC and served in Korea. He recieved the Purple Heart and Bronze Metal. He was seriously wounded on his right leg by a grenade. I would like to write a screenplay about his experiences but he has passed away and never talked much about what he went through. I was hoping to find someone who served with him or get some information on how to find out what battles he fought in. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Tim Murphy

I am just looking for information to answer the questions I have always had.
