Amanda King wrote on 2000-05-30 18:11:48.0

Comments: My father passed away in 1992 and I would like a copy of his personnel records. But, I don't know where to go to find them. I know that he did sneak of and join the marines at age 17. He was there from Mar.11,1948 to Sept.30,1948 then they found out his age. So, when he turned of age, he went back to Houston and re-joined the marines. Can you please help me find out more about his records? The ones he had were burned before I was born.

Thank you, Amanda King

Keywords: I don't know much other than he was in the Korean War. He didn't ever talk much about it. He came back after I believe 2 tours. He then became a Drill Sergent at Paris Island. He enlisted in Houston, Texas on Feb.2,1950. Date of Birth was 1-26-33. Service number was 662 499.

Comments: I'M TRYING TO FIND OUT ALL THE INFORMATION ON MY UNCLE,SGT.FRANK RICHARD ROUMELL. HE SERVED IN THE MARINES IN KOREA, AND THAT'S ALL THE INFORMATION I HAVE THAT THIS TIME.IT'S REALLY HARD TO FIND OUT ANYTHING ON THIS MATTER,SINCE HIS PASSING IN THE MID TO LATE 70'S. THE ONLY THING I CAN REMEMBER OF HIM IS WHEN I WAS A CHILD, HE LOVED TO PLAY A GUITAR. ON SATURDAY NIGHTS, HIM AND SOME HIS BUDDIES WOULD GET TOGETHER, AND BLOW THE ROOF OFF THE HOUSE. HE WAS A GREAT MAN,I WISH HE WAS STILL AROUND TODAY, SO I COULD HAVE GOTTEN TO KNOWN HIM BETTER.ANY HELP IN THIS MATTER, WOULD BE HIGHLY WELCOMED. OH BEFORE I FORGET,HE WAS A VERY FUNNY MAN,ALWAYS MAKING A PERSON EITHER LAUGH OR SMILE ALOT... THANKS FOR YALL'S TIME RUSSELL S. JOINER AZLE, TEXAS

Comments: My father was a Korean War Veteran. He was a Staff Sargeant in the Marines. Although he did not die in Korea, he was a casualty. He never was the same afterwards and eventually lost his life on November 23, 1965 while reliving a part of his life. I am his only child, and was eight when he was killed. If any one knew my father I would like to hear about him.

He was wounded in 1951 when a mortar hit his tank and was carried to safety by a man in his unit. He later had his right leg amputated below the knee, as a result of that wound, before returning home. He died in 1976. I would be grateful to hear from anyone who knew him, with any memories. Comments: My Grandfather, Eugene Ortenzi, was in this"Forgoten War". He served as a very dedicated Marine, andwould die for his country. In fact he almost bled to death from a severe wound. He has many medals. He doesn't talk at all about the time he served and understandably so. Many many many people don't realize there were more Americans that died in the Korean war than the overall death count in the Vietnam War. It is very sad how this war can be so freely forgotten. I'm 16 and looking to go into a military branch following my graduation from highschool. My uncle, Bradly Ortenzi, served as a Marine in the Desert Storm/Desert Shield war. I just would like respect given to all those Americans who served and also for all those Americans who died in this war for their country. Sincerly, Christopher A. Ortenzi

Comments: I am a friend of Eugene Bednar from Streator, Illinois. He recently asked me to check the internet and see what I could find on Korea. He is looking for anyone who remembers him. Also, I will e-mail later with a list of people he is looking to reunite with. Thank you for having such a wonderful web site. God Bless!

Comments: I am researching for my dad. He was in the 1st Marine Division in Korea. Fleet Marine Force. He went over on the General Migs. He served from 1952-1955.

Friends he remembers are Jules Toops, Larry Roth, William Butler.

He laughingly says there are 2 things he hates..."camping out" and the "snow" He did both, to long, in Korea!!

Comments: I was so thrilled to find that someone had actually made a memorial to the Korean War Veterans!!! My father was a U.S. Marine, (now deceased). He was in action at Heartbreak Ridge, Pork Chop Hill, The Chosen Reservoir, The 39th Parallel, West and South Africa. My oldest brother is also a former Marine. And my husband is a former Marine, although neither my husband nor my brother were in during war time. My brother did become a disabled vet. while in service. My endless thanks for this memorial and website. I only wish it could have been during my father's lifetime. Sincerely, Cindy Crook daughter of Willie Claude Granger, U.S. Marine Corp veteran of Korean War Conflict
