Keywords: I particpated in the Inchon S Korea landing on 9/15/50, after which my outfit was withdrawn and participated in a landing at Wonsan N Korea in November 1950 from where we went north to Hungnam N Korea. From there some of my outfit went up to Chosin, I went as far as Hamhung, until troups from China entered the war and overwhelmed us with manpower and we withdrew back to Hungnam from which we evacuated on 12/24/50. From there, by LST, we went along the coast of N and S Korea until we entered the prot city of Mason S Korea. After we were refitted and required to shave off our beards and mustaces, we returned to the combat lines in the central part of S Korea. I remained there until 10/24/51 when I was rotated back to the States.

I'm looking for guys from my outfit and would like to know in what group Shore Party is now a part.

Comments: I was in the 1st Batallion, 5th Marines, and 1st Marine division stationed in Korea in 1953 and 1954. As I get older, I keep having health problems. Has anyone experienced pyrodermia of the skin (due to the cold) or any herbicidal exposure? Anyone out there affected with cancer which can be traced back to Korea? I keep reading about herbicides used in the 1960s in Korea with the Vietnam vets, but have not found anything regarding the 1950s. I remember helicopers spraying chemicals. At the time, I thought it may may been for mosquitoes.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: My father, Al Coyle, passed away quietly and peacefully in the wee hours of April 15, 2000 at the age of 71. He had long been battling both Diabetes and Parkinson's disease. He is buried in Tracy, CA, where he grew up prior to joining the Marines.

He was in Korea 1950-1952 and was involved in the Inchon conflict. He expressed many many times throughout his life how proud he was to have served the US as a Marine, and this period in his life had a huge influence on his way of "being" in the world and on his value system.

I am his youngest child and only daughter. I miss him terrible, and so am curious to dig further into the life he lead before I came along. I would love to hear stories about him from those who served directly with him, as well as stories about that conflict itself.

Al is survived by his wife Carol of Phoenix, AZ, a son David and his wife Susan of Pleasanton, CA, a son Charles of Phoenix, AZ, myself and my husband Shahn and our child Emma.
