Comments: I stumbled on this site and the first two posts were hits. Anyone wishing information about names, places accounts would do well to read the Navy Medical Historian's new book on Navy Medicine in Korea, "Frozen in Memory." It includes, doctors, corpsmen, nurses, flight evac, patients, marines. hospital ships, It was put together from oral histories. It's available on Amazon.

Comments: I'm looking for information on my father, John H. Dawson MD. He was enlisted in the Navy, but served with the Marines in Korea (50-51 I think) as a battalion surgeon. He told us that he was on the front line, and he had many photos. I just don't know much more than that. Dad passed away last month.

Comments: I'm trying to find out a bit more of what my father, Capt. H. Todd Stradford, MD, USN, did while he was in Korea. He states that he was CO of the 1st Med Bat first with the 1st Marine Division, and later with the 3rd Marine Division when the 1st was pulled out. I have a picture of him in front of a sign, "Entering 'A' Medical Company, the Bethesda of the Orient," but not much more. If anyone has any info please email me. The address is his address in Columbia, Missouri if anyone wishes to contact him directly. Thanks IA

Comments: Dear Marines, Corpsmen, and their Families,

My name is Erin Ruth, I am a student at Arizona State University, and I am writing a nonfiction narrative based on the heroic actions of Willaim R. Charette of the Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, on the 27th of March, 1953. I am looking to correspond with Marines and Corpsmen that served with Charette, Marines and Corpsmen that were part of the F Company 2/7, and/or Marines and Corpsmen that had any part in the counterattack on Vegas Hill. Also if there is any possibility that Charette's children or grandchildren read this message, I would really appreciate any information from them as well. I have included a link to the caption of Charette's Medal of Honor if that may be of any help to anyone.

Thank you very much for your time!

Respectfully, Erin Ruth

'EASY MED' AND 'GEORGE' 3/7 PHOTOGRAPHS

Robert Leibold wrote on 2004-01-24 09:52:29.0

Comments: Throughout the past two years, thanks to this website, I've received scores' of e-mails regarding photographs of the Easy Med compound--lstMedBN, lstMarDiv.-- taken (presumably) near Panmunjom, circa 1951-1952, by my now-deceased father, former HM2 L.F. Leibold. The vast majority of the photographs are of a personal nature (i.e., 'downtime' of G 3/7 Marines and Corpsmen, and assorted glimpses' of off-duty hours around the compound), while others' are of a much more official, and therefore graphic, nature (i.e., the O.R. during the standard workday, and Med-Evac helo arrivals). I would like to share these photos with visitors to this webpage, but am unsure if it is possible (or officially permissible) to scan them to the site. I will welcome all suggestions on the matter. Last, my deep appreciation to the owners' of this site, and, of course, my everlasting love and gratitude to the men of lstMarDiv., 1950-1953. God bless each and every one of you and your families.

Vegas Hill

John Daughtery johnwdaugh@aol.com wrote:

My father was wounded @ Vegas Hill on 2 Apr 1953.
He was discharged as a Hospital Corpsman Second Class in
Nov 1953.

I am interested in knowing more about Vegas Hill and
what sort of insignia he would have worn when discharged.
He was attached to the 1st Marine Div FMF and 1st Med Bn.

Was 1st Med a standalone unit or attached to one of the
regiments at that time? Answer: According to my dad it was
attached to the 2nd Battalion of the 5th Marines, 1st Marine
Division. He mentioned he was in Dog Company
and saw some pretty heavy fighting at Vegas Hill. Also
mentioned two other outposts as Reno and Carson.

I hope this is helpful. Looking forward to any info the
"mud Marines" can provide.
