Comments: seeking anyone who might have known or been friends w/james buddenburg wia 8-19-52 timeframe of battle of bunker hill korea died aboard uss repose 2 weeks later. James dad and all pictures of james in uniform burned up in fire in 1966. james was a machine gunner wounded by morter fire, possibly at the "strongpoint" guarding tank road from north korea. would enjoy hearing from someone who might have known james and will probably never find any pictures but would like to try to find for the family.

Comments: I have a book with the following information on Corporal William Shurts.........

THE SINGING MARINE

Corporal William Shurts, 21 of F. Company, 5th Marine Regiment, was hit by a sniper's bullet on a Korean hill. He died the next day. His inspirational singing brought cheer and courage to the trenches. His comrades described him as the "man who brought God to the front lines!" His favorite song was: "The Old Rugged Cross." How this song enheartened the men in the foxholes! Often, they would join with Corporal Shurts on the chorus. Passing from man to man, William spoke quietly to them of faith in God. "After he talked to us," a comrade wrote, "the dark foiled utterly. But for sinners he has a Gospel.

From the Victorious Life by Charles Trumbull.

There is one photo of a Sign in front of a tent "The Fighting 1st, Stable Able, included are hill 144, 76,and 82, also the words Cemetary Ridge, Rocket Ridge and Steel's Tunnel Blown up Jan 14, 1953. Can anyone tell me what unit this is? Is there anyone who might remember my late Father? Also found photos of football games, a fuzzy pup and various pics of unidentified Marines, training with various weapons.

Comments: My Dad was Paul Edward Savage. He's one of the "Chosin Frozen." He passed away a year ago and the VA refuses to continue his benefits for my mom who spent her life taking care of him and is 73. We've got a lawyer who's requested we get some first hand details of what it was like to be in the Chosin, the conditions etc. Also, I have what may seem to be a strange question... Did the marine corp provide cigarettes or anything else to you all as an aid to nervousness or to help keep you alert, etc.? Please contact me at weo2him@yahoo.com with any info you have I'm gathering info for the lawyer in hopes that I can help my mother receive the benefits my dad earned in sacrificing his livelihood in Korea. It may be that this battle with the VA will be of help to other veterans' widows in the future.

Thank you, Susan Savage

Thanks for your help.
