Mary McGuire wrote on 2003-10-16 22:39:50.0

Comments: Have been desperately trying to find out any information about my father Jack McGuire who was a Navy corpsman in Korea. Just received a lead from Gunny Sgt. Lacy Bethea that my father might have been attached to this Marine Division. I have a newspaper article/photo of him with a Sgt. Leon Reese whom Sgt. Bethea remembered being in "E" company, 2nd battalion, 1st Marine Division. If any of these names sound familiar please contact me. Thank You in advance Mary McGuire

I have his purple hearts of which there are two, one has two silver stars on it, which has me confused. I have been told that he was a scout and saw the generals who were negotiating the peace process from the ditches on the sides of the road as they drove by. I have also been told that he was captured and kill while imprisoned. Any information would be most appreciated. I was also given his name, Kenneth Lee Calloway.

Comments: I am hoping to find someone who knew my grandpa, Jack Howard Evans, while he was serving in Korea. Here's some of his info (and please pardon my lack of knowledge when it comes to military terms):

Jack Howard Evans, Staff Sergeant Fox Company 1st Marines Regiment 1st Marines Division 2nd Battalion

He served in Korea during 1951 & 1952.

He has often told me stories of how he was in charge of 16 machine guns placed on a point in South Korea. I have a picture of him and some of his buddies by one of these machine guns. Here are a few of his comrades' names in case anyone might recognize them:

Leo Gonzales, NM. Roger Hicks, NY. Joseph Robinson, Penn. Evvin Steets, Penn. Elmer Muton, Ky. Kenneth Hooty, Mich. Gary Newman, NY. James Craig, NY David Golden, ILL. Kelly --- Mass. Bob Witte, Minn. Don Kirchgeter, Calif. Bill Leary, NJ.

He has also told me that he was in battles on Pork Chop Ridge & Heartbreak Ridge. (During what time, I don't know. But I could get the information for anyone if they needed it.)

Jack Howard Evans is from Rockwood, Tennessee, and is alive and doing well. If anyone who reads this knew or might know of someone who knew my papaw (grandpa), please e-mail me and I will pass on the information to him. I believe he would really like to see some of his old buddies again. Also, if I have left out any information someone might need to confirm that they knew him, feel free to e-mail me and I'll get it to you as soon as possible. My address is: JoyfulHeart@ilovejesus.net

Thank you so much! In Christ's Love, -Christen M.

HM1'DOC' BILLIE GENE COOPER, WIA 9-13-51

Burton Anderson wrote on 2001-10-13 18:46:12.0

Comments: HM1 Billie Gene "Doc" Cooper had come down to my foxhole on the morning of Sept. 13, 1951 near Hill 749. He was reading a letter to me from his wife regarding their newborn son when a barrage of mortars came in. One landed at his feet, killing him instantly and wounding me.

After all these years I would like to contact his wife and his fifty year old son.

"Doc" Cooper was from Council Bluffs, Iowa, born on Oct. 1, 1928. He died a few weeks before his 23rd birthday.

To the Cooper family: I have written about this event in "WE CLAIM THE TITLE, Korean War Marines." Please see my web, www.koreanwarmarines.com.
