ALFRED RAYMOND MAREK B/1/1 DIED OF WOUNDS

Comments: My brother Alfred Raymond Marek died of wounds in Korea. I think that means that he died in a hospital. I would like to know where and where was he when he was injured. How was he injured. I was told that he stepped on a land mine. I would like to know if anyone who may have served with him remembers. He was from Pleasanton, Texas. He always carried a rosary and wrote that he attended the mass when available in the field. I think he was a radio operator.

Comments: Wanted to inform of the death of Howard Reed, USMC from Detroit, MI. (May 2003) Was on USS FARGO, landed at Inchon, was in capture of Seoul, and Chosin Resovoir. Received Silver Star, left service as Cpl. Charlie Company of First Marines.

My dad attended some reunions over the last 20 years and enjoyed them immensly. I think it renewed his pride of the USMC quite a bit. He worked as a carpenter in Detroit, had 4 boys and adopted another and even though sick his last couple of years (emphysema), he was sharp and alert till the time came.

He is interred at Arlington Cemetary.

Comments: I am looking for any information about my father John McGuire who was a navy corpsman with a Marine division during the Korean War. My father never spoke much about the war while he was alive. I do know that he was in Seoul Sept/Oct of 1950. I have a newspaper clipping of him with Marine Sgt. Leon Reese holding an American flag. The caption also states that he was wounded shortly after the picture was taken. All his service medals were stolen after his death and no one in the family knows what happened to his service records. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Mary McGuire

Its hard to go with just a first and last name. I know that not everyone has a computer. But maybe they can ask a friend or two for their e-mail address, and one could get in touch. Comments: I wrote a novel about the Korean War based on my experiences in that war. IN THE SHADOW OF GLORY is about a Marine infantry squad fighting in the outpost battles during the last half of that war. There is no Hollywood hokum in this book. it is an accurate depiction of men in combat-- how they lived, how they talked and how they died. The book may be ordered at Amazon.com Barnes & Noble or Borders. E-mail me if you would like a signed copy for $20.00 which includes S&H.

Comments: I recently accompanied my father, Walter Lewis Jr., of Pennsylvania, to Parris Island, South Carolina, on Jan. 10, 2002 to celebrate his 50th anniversary of boot camp. He served in the Korean War 1952 to 1953 arriving at Inchon in June 1952. He was sent to Bunker Hill for six months and then to Yellow River. My father was Charlie Company, 1st Tank Battalion. If anyone has information about those who served or knows my father, please contact me. Thank You, Edward Lewis elewis@citizensvoice.com

Comments: Still trying to find any one of the Marines that were there that rainy, dark, foggy night, when the platoon was on their way up to Bunker Hill(Aug. 22 Or 23, 1952) when they walked over a ledge. The Sgt. got hurt,I think it was his knee.My dad could realy use any of the peoples names that were there that night. My dad is James Sartorelli (Jim) from Gaastra Mi, and worked for his dad in the brick business befor joining the Marines. As like my dad, I work with him, doing carpentry work.I have been looking for these mens names since last Christmas,to no real luck.My dad is in his 70's, and the VA won't increase his disability for the injury he got that night untill he has proof that it happened. My dad served our country, and I think it is about time that he has a chance to enjoy our country while he can. This is why we would love to hear from any one of these men asap.Later my dad was wounded by a grenade(Aug.25/26 1952).I do have photos I can e-mail you if you need. This would make a great gift to the greatest dad on Christmas. We appreciate any help we can get. SEMPER FI
