He also got stuck in Guam for about 8 months on his return stateside and killed a Guamanin taxi driver that ran the gate. He will talk about his time served some. Gregory Bush wrote on 2006-05-29 08:22:56.0
Comments: I am trying to find any information available about my father Edward B. Bush (Ed, maybe Bennie) who served from begining to relief at Guadalcanal and other battles. He was discharged after the war and then drafted back into the Marines for Korea. I understand that in Korea he may have been in the battle of Inchon. I saw the name "Capt. Trahan" on this site and remember that name as a child. How can I get a copy of his war record? Medals? I also remember as a child playing in a large box which contained numerous medals. Something happened one day which set something off in my father and caused him to destroy them all. No one knows what it was, as he talked very little about what he went through. He had some scars on the outside, but many inside. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Gregory B. Bush

Comments: I'd like to know if anyone out there who survived Guadalcanal and served under General Vogal would remember my Dad S/SGT Allen Janise from Louisiana.
Dad told me of an Ice plant that the enemy had control of on a hill above the airfield, also of the Lunga river. Prior to the enemy attempting to regain possesion of the airfield, his units' communication was cut off and he knew where the lines ran to & from, so he went out ahead of the front lines under fire and restored communications. He was put in for a field commission and the silver star, but never recieved it as the requests were destroyed in transit and he felt it wasn't meant to be and never pursued it.
He later was injured when the straphing and bombing of the now occupied airfield was held by the Marines. He was medevace'd to New Calidonia.
Just wanted to see if anyone remembered him.
Thank You

Comments: Looking for stories/info on my father John McGuire. He was a corpsman attached to the 2nd battalion 1st marine reg, 1st marine div. He didn't speak much about his experiences. I do know from his records that he participated in the assault and seizure of Inchon, the capture and securing Seoul, and the Wonsan-Hamhung-Chosin campaign. I do know that he received a Purple Heart- it seems he was tending a wounded marine when a grenade was thrown. He layed over the marine to protect him and received shrapnel(?) to the left side of his neck and left arm. My father was a good man, very strict on us 16 kids, but still good at heart. Just curious as to what he did,saw etc. that molded him into the man I knew. Thank you Mary C. McGuire Daughter of a corpsman!

Purple Heart |

Robert Johnson wrote on 2003-06-18 11:26:42.0
Comments: I am a disabled veteran of the U.S. Army. Recently, there was a change to AR 600-8-22 Purple Heart. It allows military personnel wounded by friendly fire to be awarded the Purple heart. I noticed in paragraph (5) Examples of injuries or wounds which clearly do not qualify for award of the Purple Heart are as follows:
(in part)
(a) Frostbite or trench foot injuries.
In the local newspaper there was an article describing a World War II veteran finally awarded the Purple Heart for suffering frostbite of both feet. He received medical treatment in England. I assume there was change in the regulation since the end of WW II. The purpose of this letter is to obtain knowledge to process paperwork for a deceased friend that died in Germany. However, I cannot locate the regulation that covers the period during the Korean War. I am familiar with conditions of winters the Allied Forces experienced during the conflict. There were many that perished because of the harsh conditions. My question is were they posthumously awarded the Purple Heart? If so, does anyone happen to know the reference authorizing such? Please understand the purpose of this letter. I would appreciate any information.
Regards, Robert E. Johnson

I was buck Sgt in Korea and Japan then S/Sgt. in N. Carolina. Went pheasant hunting in Korea, almost got bombed by accidentally dropped bomb. Had an outhouse blow up when I used it the first time after digging the hole with flaming gasoline. Our unit served with First, Fifth and Seventh Marines as well as in First Mar Div. HQ. That's where Wizard Hill was located. You could identify our location because we were usually on a hill with four-40 foot antennas around our tent.

Comments: I am looking for any information on Donald Graham Williams, a Marine veteran of Korea. Williams died a few years ago without having talked with his family about his war experiences. His daughter now lives in London and would like to know more about this part of her dad's life. Any information is appreciated. Williams was born in Greensboro, NC and later lived in the Washington DC area and Sunbury, Pennsylvania. Would like to hear from former comrades. Thank you very much.

Comments: Looking for anyone who knew George Montgomery Blair who served in Korea 52-53. I am George Morris Blair. We both enlisted early 51, our service nbrs are very close. I saw a recommendation for the MOH for George Montgomery Blair sometime in 54-55. It was shown to me because it was thought I was the recipient. Not so. George Montgomery has passed away, his wife still lives. HQTRS USMC says no such document exits. Please! anybody who knows anything about this please contact me at above address or email. Somehow this document was lost in DC. Myself and Col Okeefe (ret) knows of this document. Somebody out there wrote it so please respond. His family needs to know. Thanks, Semper Fi!

GERALD P. (JERRY) Ravino wrote on 2002-01-18 12:04:08.0
Comments: I am a former corporal and with former S/Sgt. Jack Carty, we are writing our units history and many stories of supporting arms that were involved in the Korean War from 1950-1953 Jack, served from 51 until-May of 1952 and my tour was from Sept.52 until the end 1953/24 th.Draft. The book is to be published this year called (FLAME DRAGONS.) This has been three years in the making and we believe because of our own experiences and factual documentation, along with many interviews that an outstanding piece of un-told Marine Corps, history that all Marines can be proud of is going to be told in honor of the men and women that served. Yes we are not going ever forget them wonderful nurses on ships and hospitals in Japan. Jack, and myself eventually, became Flame Thrower tank commanders involved in combat in North and South Korea. If you have seen the (Flame Platoon) of nine M4A3E8 Sherman tanks or been involved in supporting us or Flamers supporting you? We would appreciate hearing from you for possible inserts into our book. We welcome any tank or other pictures also for possible use in the book. Semper Fi, Jerry F-21 Jack was F-22

Comments: I am looking for any information on the unit that my father served with in Korea during 12 Nov. 1952- 4 July 1954. His patches ar confusing to us. He had two, one with a white 4 leaf clover and another with a white X or cross. I have many pictures of his time there and the many other times that he served in Korea including a picture of him in a trench fresh off the boat with a number 1 on his helmet. He died in 1981 and he did not talk about this time to much, but did his later years served in Soel.

Comments: I am seeking information about the Marine Corps Records for my father, James Talbot Harrison. He is still alive but I do not know much about his years in the Marines or his service during the Korean War. I know he served from I believe 1951 to 1953. He is from Ellavile, Ga. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star but other than that, I know very little. Is there somewhere I could write or call to get more information about his service record.

John H. Greenier - Needs Help |

Comments: John H. Greenier was aUS Marine in the Korean war and fought for this country. Now due to the stress of combat he has suffered from Stomach Ulcers. The Veterans Affairs will not accept this as a war related injury and give him just compensation. He and his wife are both disabled and can not work. This Govern. will not give them the money needed to survive. John has also suffered from a stroke and can not work. Thier hospital bills and living expenses (which are minimal) exceed what this country pays them each month. That is about$1100. It is a sad day when the gov. of the "greatest" nation on Earth will not give due pensions to thier Veterans. I am disgusted!

I was recommended for the Silver Star for actions that took place December 26, 1952 and the Navy Cross for actions that took place January 14, 1953. Both decorations were sent me in the mail receintly and were downgraded to the Bronze Star and Silver Star....I believe these men can shed some light on the two decorations....I have contested this matter with the Navy Board of Corrections.
