I really don't know much else and would appreciate any info. I do remember hearing stories about an accident that he had jumping once out of a helicopter - that resulted in having to have his weddding band cut off of him. thanks for any help. Lelie

Comments: Hi everyone. I have an unusual request. My son, Shawn, is a freshman in high school. He's been assigned an essay to do on the differences of basic training in the Air Force - then and now. The "now" part is not difficult - it's just that we can't find anything on how it was back then, i.e. women in basic training, the hours, the training itself, the housing, etc. Can anyone help me find information and or at least relay your personal experience? If so, give me the year that you were in the service (it doesn't matter which branch). My oldest son is currently serving in the Air Force and he's trying to help me on this, but so far nothing has turned up. Thanks so much! Sherri LaFerrara

Harper was pulled out while we were at the range and sent to quantico. The next time I met him was at Ascom City waiting to board a ship(the Meiggs) for rotation home. He was a first Lt.If he is still with us, I speak on behalf of the plt that he was one hell of a man as we look in retrospect, but at the time obviosloy he was a sob!I have ofter wondered if he made it a career. I stayed for three years and went on to college for my degree.

comments:
It has been a long, long time but I would enjoy hearing from my Marine
"boots" all of whom survived "the asylum on the Island". 88 started out
and 67 graduated; in addition, we all went to CamPen for close combat
training w/ T & R Command, then onto Battalion FMF schools at Delmar.

From there most of PLtn #288 embarked for replacements to the 1st Marine
Division FMF in Korea. It took the USNS Gen. Miegs 21 days to get us to
Pusan, Korea.

Remember that dirty bucket the Miegs?? 12th replacement draft was put
on to "cattle trucks" thru that foul, smelly port city. Enroute to tent
city saw filthy Koreans urinating & defecating in front of their
cardboard hovels. Days later we were assigned to our various MOS and I
went to "A" Co. 1st Tank Bn with 4 others from #288.

With our hands full in that combat tour lost track of #288 boots. If
any of you are on the web, please feel free to say hello again.

Looking for the surviving members of Plt 69, MCRD Parris Island, SC
of 1949. A lot made the 1st Prov Mar Bgd.

Most went with the 1st Mar Div to Inchon. Most were only 18 years old.
Some were younger. Most made Chosin Reservoir. Please answer.

If you know a Marine who is now 65 or older and from east of the
Mississippi, He could have been in Plt 69 of 1949.

Thanks
