They moved to Wichita, KS when he was out of service. He would have been in Cherry Point in early to mid 1950's.

LOOKING FOR ANYONE WHO KNEW MY FATHER WALLACE 'WHITEY' WHITING - USMC 1953 - KOREA
Diane Whiting wrote on 2004-11-13 04:29:16.0
Comments: Hello,
I am looking for anyone who knew my father, Wallace "Whitey" Whiting. He entered the USMC when he was 17 (1953) and was sent to Korea, as a Machine Gunner, shortly before the war ended. Apparently he was only there for approx 1 month when he was seriously injured in the leg - for which he earned a purple heart. My father may have enlisted in Ithaca NY (his hometown). My father also had an older brother (10 years older) in the USMC. His name was Mert Whiting. If anyone knew my father, especially during his time in boot camp (I think boot camp was at Paris Island) or during his time in Korea, please contact me.
Thank you.

It has been a long, long time but I would enjoy hearing from my Marine
"boots" all of whom survived "the asylum on the Island". 88 started out
and 67 graduated; in addition, we all went to CamPen for close combat
training w/ T & R Command, then onto Battalion FMF schools at Delmar.
From there most of PLtn #288 embarked for replacements to the 1st Marine
Division FMF in Korea. It took the USNS Gen. Miegs 21 days to get us to
Pusan, Korea.
Remember that dirty bucket the Miegs?? 12th replacement draft was put
on to "cattle trucks" thru that foul, smelly port city. Enroute to tent
city saw filthy Koreans urinating & defecating in front of their
cardboard hovels. Days later we were assigned to our various MOS and I
went to "A" Co. 1st Tank Bn with 4 others from #288.
With our hands full in that combat tour lost track of #288 boots. If
any of you are on the web, please feel free to say hello again.
