Looking for anyone recalling hugh munitions factory explosion on initial sweep through Hungnam about Novemember 19560 where I got ripped with shrpnel or Amtrack explosion at Mason basecamp in summer 1951 any my treatment for severe burns to face chest and both arms by corpsmen.

My name is William F. Whitehair. I was at Camp Delmar, Oceanside, CA from Dec. 1952 until Nov. 1953. I was with an amphibious tractor batillion company B, and was attached to test and experimental program on new amphibious vehicles being tested at that time. Three vehicles were taken to Nevada (UPSHOT KNOTHOLE) , and a bomb was dropped on them, and then they were returned to Camp Delmar for Us to take parts from them for vehicles being tested. Comments: This airplane came and crash-landed and slid on the airfield with a cloud of sparks and smoke. I almost got killed by two rockets that missed me by a foot plus the machine guns firing at me when I ran to help the pilot out of the smoking plane.After Mg"s ceased firing the pilot got rescued.One Marine Sgt mentioned something about a medal but my own outfit wanted to court-martial me!I never met the Pilot or heard any more about this Kimpo incident of Sept/1950.Any witnesses???

Comments: Want to hear from anyone who witnessed a lone Mar
ine run towards a plane that had just crashed-lan-
landed, said Marine was going to rescue the Pilot.
Pilot probably dazed in smoking plane mistook said Marine for enemy soldier fired two rockets and all machine-guns at the Marine missing him by
inches until mg's were out of ammo. Some marine Sgt ran to check on the Marine for wounds and said he would put him up for at least the Bronze
star for his attempt which almost turned into a
tragedy.Kimpo Airfield Sept 17-20?? 1950. After incidence pilot was helped by others.Unknown inf
