I was known at that time as Rusty Spencer. I would also like to know if any of you might have developed foot problems from the bitter cold that we encountered there on top of the hill. I have numbness in the feet and left leg that they cannot explain and I have heard of frozen feet giving you problems many years later. Let me know, please. Comments: Was discharged from first tour of duty January 1950. Moved to Chicago. On July 25, 1950 was notified to report to the 1st 90 AAA. It was then I learned I was in a reserve unit.

In August we left, by train, for Camp LeJeune, more specfically "tent camp", out on the highway. It was completely overgrown with weeds and bushes. The Quonst huts were in very bad shape. The first few weeks were spent clean up the place, getting shot, medical check ups and general organization.

There were reserve 2nd Lt's out of colledge who had never commanded troops before. It was a riot watching then attempting to march a squad of men.

At first the Corps didn't know what to do with us. Other units were going in from different parts of the country. For it it was like a reuion, I ran into guys I hasd served with before.

A lot of the people called up served in WWII and were in not so good health. When we arrived the North Koreans were no using any aircraft. At first a lot of time was spent cleaning up the 90's. Then we practiced precision artillery firing. When it was felt we were ready to ship out, aircraft started showing in combat in Korea, so we went back to training, learning how to fire at jets.

After we were considered ready for duty in Korea, we started loading the Troop train. Just prior to shipping out, I was discharged due to my prior service.

From: KudzuFL@aol.com E-mail

Subject: 1st 90 mm Gun Batatlion USMC

Thanks for this project.

Can't believe it's been 43 years since I did my tour in Korea, although
it's often seemed we dropped by the wayside in the wake of the
Vietnam war. I spent some time with the !st 90mm AAA Gun Battalion,
FMF Pac, and have never seen mention of the 90's in any history or
roster of Korean Marine Corps units.

I'd like to find a history of the 1st 90's, or hear from anyone who
served with the battalion at the time of its initial deployment to
Korea, and thereafter.

Thanks.

This is the best coverage I have encountered pertaining to the Korean
War. Thanks for all you are doing. I served at K3 Airfield in 1953 and
was there when the Truce was signed. My service was with Provisional
Automatic Weapons Battery, which was a group of volunteers from the 1ST
90 mm Gun Bn. Our Quad 50 Cal. machine guns defended the MAG 33 VMF
115 & 311 squadrons,and were on call as infantry support.Former Sgt.
