Grit's Newsletter in which he posed the question, What were your most memorable days in the Marine Corps? Our Sgt. Vogel responds as follows: Actually I had three best days. 1. The day I graduated from Boot Camp (P.I.) 9/9/51 2. The day I met Chesty Puller at Pendleton. (Full Field Marching Pack inspection). 8/15/52 3. The day I met Gen. Lemuel C. Sheperd Commandant of the Marine Corps in Korea. (Personnel inspection). October of 1952., Don't remember the day. The marching pack inspection went well for most of us. Gen. His unit was the 1st 90mm AAA Gun Bn, 1st MAW, FMF Pac. My dad was Joseph Teddy Veillon from Mamou, Louisiana. He was 17-18 years old at the time and he spoke fluent French. He served in Korea in 1951-1952. He was on a troop train that collided with a civilian passenger train near Lettsworth, Louisiana in 1950-1951. I'm seeking information on what larger unit the 1st 90mm Gun Bn belonged to and any actions it may have been involved in. I'm also seeking anyone who might have known my dad and remember any experiences they may have had together. Thanks. It was about the third day out to sea when I broke out with poison ivy from the waist down.I'll never forget that week. I continue to have vived memories of that wreck. I remember the first night in Korea as we disembarked the air raid sirens while we were moving to our gun compound to relieve the Army. I also remember the planes landing in front of our gun position at (K-3,I think) and the pilot that crashed just short of our position. Would like to hear from anyone that served 8-51 to 5-52. We pulled 24 hours duty(6 on and 6 off). Sure got boring. I remember that the Army had a riot on some island and ours was the only radio that could reach the good guys. An Army General came to us and asked to use our radio. He asked what could he do for me(Larry was on R and R)and I asked for a fifth of whiskey and the next day his aide brought one to me, I got crocked and had a Capt mass. What could he do? Nothing-No body else could man the radio Ha/Ha Do you all remember the typhoon that hit us. I slept in one of the gun pits. Keywords:

I was there from April 1952 to April 1953. I was known at that time as Rusty Spencer. I would also like to know if any of you might have developed foot problems from the bitter cold that we encountered there on top of the hill. I have numbness in the feet and left leg that they cannot explain and I have heard of frozen feet giving you problems many years later. Let me know, please. CAME TO KOREA ON THE 18TH REPLACEMENT DRAFT ABOARD THE MSTS GENERAL WALTER H. GORDON AND RETURNED TO THE STATES IN THE USS CAPE ESPERANCE CVE-88. MY BN CAMMANDING OFFICER FOR MOST OF THE TOUR WAS COLONEL MAXWELL CHAPMAN (VMI). AT THAT TIME I WAS SGT DONALD N. ADAMCZAK LATER NAME CHANGED TO DONN ADAMS. I BUNKED WITH A NAVY CORPSMAN IN KOREA BUT I CANNOT REMEMBER HIS NAME IT IS A SHAME I REMEMBER THE FACES BUT THE NAMES ARE DISTANT MEMORIES. BEING ALMOST 70 MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THAT. WENT TO CAMP LEJUNE (MP BN) FOR APPROX 6 MONTHS AND THEN WAS ASSIGNED TO THE USMC RECRUITING DEPOT (AFES) PITTSBURGH, PA. MET THE CUTEST LITTLE THING, A COAL MINERS DAUGHTER, GOT OUT OF THE CORPS IN 1955 AND BEEN IN PITTSBURGH AND MARRIED TO SAID COAL MINERS DAUGHTER FOR 47 YEARS. I AM NOW RETIRED AND LOOK WITH FOND REMEMBERANCE ON MY APPROX FIVE YEARS IN THE CORPS.SEMPER FI TO ALL WHO I SERVED WITH AND ALL THOSE PAST AND PRESENT WHO WEAR THE GREEN. Keywords:

Moved 90MM AAA guns upt to kimpo Pennisula overlooking Han and Imjin Rivers to fire H and I. Would like to hear from anyone with same group.

Was trained as a radar operator, and was also with 2nd 90mm at Lejuene,at Camp Gieger(tent camp) and in Oct. of 53 moved out to 29 Palms,Calif.and opened new base.Was with 1st 90mm in Korea,I believe D Batt. from 4-52 to 3-53.Am retired after 39 years on Detroit Police Department.This site brings back lots of memories.
