Comments: My father's name was John (Johhny) Harcar. He was a sargeant during the Korean War, and was from the Cleveland, Ohio area. Served from 1950-53. Was born in 1929. He died when I was a child and I never got to talk to him about his time. His records were destroyed in some fire in the 1970's in the records office. Any help in my search would be appreciated.

Comments: After his honorable service in Korea, my Great-Uncle Waldo spent some last years in the South West U.S. He was my mom's favorite uncle because of his comedic talents. But he liked to wander. He even labelled himself a hobo. When he quite suddenly stopped checking in with the family, my great aunt hired a PI. His last social security deduction was taken from pay for work at Juan Corona's Sullivan Ranch. We still don't know if beloved Uncle Waldo was one of Juan Corona's 25 victims. In closing this cold case for my family, it might be helpful to learn if he visited any of his brothers-in-arms and if so, when.

Jerry Dennis wrote on 2009-06-25 15:01:36.0
Comments: For years, I've heard my father, Walter Edward Dennis Jr, allege he was at "Pork Chop Hill". He alleges he enlisted February, 1949, in the Arkansas Army National Guard in the 153rd Infantry Division. He states there were 90mm tanks, and he served in the tank company. He also states he served at Fort Knox,KY (Jun 1949) for Armor Basic Training, and proceeded with with Armor Advanced Infantry Training in Sep 1950.He also states he had BMT (Basic Military Training) at Fort Polk (then known as "Camp Polk") in the summer of 1950. He indicates he served with a combat unit in Korea with Company C, 10th Heavy Tank Battalion, Combat Command "A" for twenty-one days in February and March of 1951. He indicates that he was injury when his tank was blown up, that he was evac'd to Japan and then to the United States to the Hot Springs Medical Facility, Hot Springs, AR. in March/April 1951. Following his recouperation, he returned to the Army National Guard 30 Apr 1951 and was discharged 22 Sep 1951. He was a Private/E-2, and served with the 5th Armor Division, Company A, 5th Quartermaster Battalion from the above dates.
Now that I've stated this, let me explain my dilemma. His father, my grandfather, and my uncle, his brother, states he never left the continental United States and was never in Korea.
As he is now almost seventy-five years old, he is unable to do for himself.
My interest is whether he was imaginatively creating his own military history in Korea. I have verified his service from April 1951 through September 1951 with the Arkansas Army National Guard. That much I know is true.
He brings up the men he served with in Korea: 1LT Vitatoe, CPT Early, and 1SG Schoonover. Does anyone remember any of these names?
Thank you for allowing me to post this information. My younger brother states I should just let it drop. He spent a good number of years in the Air Force. I spent 4 years in the Air Force from 1970-1974 and served in Vietnam. I also served in the Louisiana Army National Guard for 4 years, three which were AGR/Full-time.
Keywords: Combat/Company C, 10th Heavy Tank Battalion, Combat Command "A", Korea, Feb/Mar 1951/Wounded, Evacuated to Japan, Mar 3, 1951, then to Hot Springs, AR;

Tim Denton wrote on 2009-01-17 22:36:24.0
Comments: I am looking for information on what unit my dad served in. William H. Denton (1926-1996) I have very little detail on my dads service, whom has passed away, but I grew up and watched him pull shrapnel out of his leg on many occasions. I know he was stationed with the 4th Infantry Division in Frankfort when the Korean War broke out, and that they asked for volunteers and dad though since he was single and a lot of the guys were married, he would go. He said he was both in the infantry and the artillery. I know he had a Springfield 30.06 he used over there and talked about sharp-shooting some. He didnt talk much about it. I have no idea what unit he ended up with as his records were burned up in the St. Louis fire. I would really like to find out what unit he was with and their history in the Korean War.

Jody Brookshier wrote on 2008-11-30 13:51:39.0
Comments: I have been working for 2 years to try to get my uncle's medals, to try to investigate his badges, insignia and such to try to piece together a picture of his service and to put together a burial flag and medal case for him. I was told his records were lost in the notorious fire. So if anyone can help with filling in the blanks I would be very grateful as I keep hitting dead ends in my research. He was Lynn H Kelly. He was a corporal when he came out. His DD214 says his most significant duty was Svc Btry 537th Fa Bn. He was artillery. I have recieved most of his medals. But still have questions about some enameled pins and other pins and things that were in his personal property. I have spent countless hours trying to fill in the blanks- even asking my congressman for help. I would really like to get this all put together before my mom passes. If anyone can help I would love to hear from you!

During the Korean War he was taken as a POW and later escaped from the Bataan Death March. He lived in the jungles with a tribe for a period of some years until he was returned home. He was a Drill Sargeant and retired from the military sometime before 1976 when he died. Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

He was sent to Camp Breckenridge,KY before going to Korea. On his DD-214 the only unit listed is in regard to the 501st Abn. Med. Bn.Co. C. He was with the 907th Glider field artilley during WWII and I am told that the 101st A/B was not active during Korea. Comments: Soldier's surname was Garcia (Mexican-American), landed with Gen. Douglas MacArthur's forces in Lingayen Gulf, Philippines on January 1945. Met him when I was 10 y.o. (am 73 now) when his battalion was marching along the high-way west of the town of Urdaneta, Pangasinan, and they were heading towards Clark Field, an American air base captured by the Japanese in 1942. The Americans were amazed that a kid could speak English and Spanish in the boondocks of the Philippines. Garcia must have been 19-20 y.o. then. I hope he is alive, in good health, and would communicate with me. I still live in the Philippines. Thank you.

Keywords: My grandfather was Leo Joseph O'Brien Jr. from Augusta, Georgia and I know that he was in WW2 (Omaha Beach on D-Day when he was 18 or 19 years old), Korean War and Vietnam. I never had the chance to meet or know more about him and he rarely spoke to my mother and my aunts and uncles so I know very little. He died July 31, 1977. Any help on his unit, etc. would be great.

Phil Hardwick wrote on 2008-07-13 16:43:51.0
Comments: I'm looking for anyone that knew my father in Korea. He died in 1981 when I was just a young man and before I could have an adult relationship with him. He always told us kids the scar on his stomach was from having his appendix removed. I found out just last year, from his brother, my Dad was wounded in Korea. My uncle had very little details, only that he was shot with a "burp" gun. It all became very clear why my father felt so strongly about our freedom and the American way of life. Apparently all of his military records burned. He was stationed in Japan before the war and would have been one of the first to go to Korea. I would like to learn his story. If you knew my Dad, Dale Hardwick, please let me know.
Thank you for serving. We are all very proud of those of you that gave to us our freedom.
Best Regards,
Phil Hardwick

Comments: I am searching for my biological father, "Teddy K. Soup" (or "Shoup"?) who served in Korea ~1960-61. He and my mom were engaged, but he was given orders and left before they were married.
My moms Korean name was Pong Sun Kim (Kim, Pong Sun). Teddy was originally from Kansas and possibly worked with or knew of Gerald Lee Adams from Lansing, MI. My mom also spoke of a very kind man by the name of Mr. Burnham (I believe he may have been a colonel?)
Thanks in advance for any information anyone could provide in helping find my father.
God Bless everyone who has served for our country.

Comments: I'm trying to locate anyone who might have served with my father (Sgt. Louis Hester) in the Korean war. Even though he was career army, he spoke little of the war. I've obtained his records and can't really understand the language. The record shows that on 23 July, 1950 his unit was shipped from Ft. Knox to Korea where he was present for 5 campaigns. The unit is listed in his record as "30thOrdHvyMaintCo AFFE." Beyond that I know very little except that he was injured in 1952 and returned to the US, stationed first at Camp Cook, Cal., and then Ft. Lewis, Washington. Would love to hear from anyone who might have known dad.

I want to build as good a memorial as I can and it has lead to questions. I wanted to see if I can track his service- where he was in Korea- any major battles. Researching some of the badges and medals he is entitled to lead to questions- I think one was his marksman- there were many weapons he may have used... Just trying to put together a record with no records. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction? Comments: Looking for anyone who knows the actual unit my recently deceased grandfather belonged to. His name was Wallace W. Cogean. He was a Staff Sargeant from R.I. I have a lot of written journal information from his time in Korea with a lot of stories. He started his journey to Japan from San Francisco and during the voyage there were 2 times at sea the boat lost power. They camped at Mount Fugi and landed in Korea by nightfall. I know at some point he trained Korean soliders as well. He even has names written in his journal. They constantly moved around while in Korea with him referring to them as the "yo-yo" army. He told stories of rolling out wire and the N.Koreans would cut the line and roll it up to steal it. Also he told stories of raising the radio/radar or something off the ground into the trees. He was in Korea until Spring of 51. In the journal it mentions the 3rd Batallion 17th infantry 7th division 8th Army. His service records i believe were destroyed in a fire and therefore i cannot look them up. I do have his serial number. After he returned home I see a 7th infantry patch on his right shoulder in a photo its the red/back hourglass patch. I don't know how long after he was home that the picture was taken. any information would help. Thanks

I couldn't find this unit listed on the Korean War Project website. Does anyone know anything about this unit? It would be terrific to connect with someone from the unit, especially if anyone remembers him. He was from Kansas. Appreciate any help anyone might have to share.

Comments: My uncle served with 3rd ID in the Korean War. I think his service was in the early part of the war ('50-'52?). I don't know which regiment he was with, but I think he was at Chosin Reservoir. If anyone has information about what units he served with, I (along with the rest of his family) would appreciate hearing from you. We lost him yesterday after a long, good life. He was a good man. He is being buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetary in St. Louis today.

HOWARD WALL, SHELBY NC HIGH SCHOOL/TEXTILE LEAG., ARMY BASEBALL PLAYER) 1930'S WW11 |

Kay Wall wrote on 2007-12-01 17:15:35.0
Comments:
Keywords: My mother has lost the Army Book with his Unit and pictures of him while stationed on an Army Base I think in NC. He played Second Base.(All-star) His nephew, Homer wall, who had a scrapbook of my dad' high school days as an outstanding baseball/basketball player around Shelby, NC during the 1930's ,passed away several years ago and I have not been able to locate anyone with any information concerning that scrapbook Someone from Shelby may have access to the newspaper clipping's from 1930's. Daddy, a big Yankee fan, was known as a talented second base player. I was once told that he had a chance to play with them in the minor leag. Also,I remember seeing pictures/articles in Homer's scrapbook from Shelby newspaper of him playing high school Basketball. One had something about him turning down a scholarship at Duke for a chance with the Yankees. True?? I would like to know for sure.
(1941) He met my mother in Greenwood, SC while playing in a textile coached by Harley Heath, soon was drafted into the Army. I was born in 1942 After the war Daddy returned to Greenwood and played for several more years.
He would have turned 90 year this past November. He was known around Shelby by a nick-name -Simon He had 2 brothers Shay, Jay-1 sister Pauline. His mother was Rada Beason Wall. I never remember meeting anyone from Beason side of his family His mother died in her 30's I think. I would welcome hearing from anyone who knew my dad Howard Beason Wall or his mother. My dad was not one to talk about himself. He died so young and I have forgotten so much of what I did know. We lived in Greenwood, South Carolina for most of mhis adult life. He died in the 1970's while living in Mauldin SC at the age of 54. My mother is still living but she too has lost most of their past. Now that I have retired, I have the time to search for more of his past.
If you have information, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Comments: Anyone knowing my Dad, Jerry Kubitz, a paratrooper, was in combat'52-'55. He didn't talk much about it, but remember a particular story about being pinned in a fox hole for 3 days while under enemy attack. He obtained frost bite at the time.He was a young 16-17 yrs. old, lived in an orphanage in Ohio or New York until lying about his age to enlist in the army. There was a couple of guys he talked about, friends, but can't remember their names. Also, a nurse, who took care of him when he was flown to the hospital for frostbite. He talked about how pretty she was. This is vague, maybe someone will remember his name. My fingers are crossed. Thanks so much, Pam, Daughter of Jerry Kubitz.

I know he was in the Army. I know he served for some period, but not the entire time.
I know he didn't go into battle.
Other than that, I don't have other information.
Can anyone at this site help me?

I'm writing a family history about the adoption and would like to speak with anyone who served with Paul in Seoul, particularly those who remember him spending time with a 4-year-old boy who was known as Jimmy. I'm also particualrly interested in contacting SFC Wernar Krenzer, who would have been 27 in 1953 when he accompanied Jimmy home from Korea to the midwest where he was reunited with Paul.
