SGT. WILLIAM 'BILLY' OR 'SMOKEY' ROBERTS

Comments: I am looking for anyone who may have known my father, Billy Roberts, durning his 18 month tour of duty during the Korean War. He was a tank comander with the 3rd Armored Div. He never spoke much about the actual war until the last years of his life but he always fondly remembered his tank crew. Unfortunately I don't remember names of crew members but I do remember that his CO was a Lt. Bottoms. My father was ill for the last 20 years of his life and my son never got a chance to know him as a healthy man. My father had boxes of photos from his time in Korea but all were destroyed in a fire 17 years ago. If there is anyone who could give me any additional information on him or his unit I would be deeply grateful.

In Sunday school recently a class member mentioned a Chaplain, probably Protestant, who was set to give the Easter Morning Service. A General, name and svc unknown, requested his presence instead at a different official function. The Chaplain declined, held his Easter svc, and was subsequently shipped further south to some outpost. With no more than this it may be next to impossible to find him. I am interested in what happened after the transfer. My comment to the class was they had a need for him there. This caused some laughter; but, I was referring to a more heavenly need. If you have a War Chaplains site let me know, and thanks.

Comments: I was told my step-father Carl Yancey Howerton was in the Korean War.I am also told this man is dead now I can not find a death certificate on him I do know he was from Roxboro N.C.The last time I saw this man I was 14 and very wild I am sure he thought I would I would amount to nothing no matter how hard he tried and lord knows he done the very best he could he loved me so much he had no children of his own. Unfortunately, he died before I was born and nobody knows anything about what he went through because he was out of the house the day he returned. I was just wondering if anybody knew my grandfather, Zygmundt Niemczyk. He was from Chicago, IL and served in the United States Army for at least 15 years. I know it is a long-shot, but I was just going on some chance that somebody knew him or at least had heard of him. LOOKING FOR MATTHEW CHARLES OBRIEN, MY COUSIN.

Comments: Our family lost contact with my cousin, Matthew Charles OBrien, known as, "Obie", many years ago. He was the only child of one of my mother's sisters. I have a photo of him taken in the mid to late 1950's showing him in his army uniform and master sergeant's stripes. Some cousins think he settled in Texas, married and had a daughter. I am just 70 and he would be several years older than me. His mother was "Mae" or Mary. His father had the same name and was blinded in one eye from gas in WWI. He also went into the Coast Guard in WWII. The family was from was from Cambridge, Mass. near Boston. His mother worked in R.H. Stearns department store in Boston. Would appreciate any information about him.

Comments: I am serching for anyone who can give me info. on a family member Thomas Leo Barnes. He entered the Army in 1953. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. Tom was awarded the Good Conduct Medal (5th award), Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze service stars, National Defense Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Korean Service Medal, United Nationa Service Medal, Aircraft Corpsman Badge, 2 Overseas Service Bars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with palm, the Rifle Expert Badge and the Meritorios Service Medal. Segeant First Class Barnes retired from active service in 1975. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.
