Comments: Comments: I am looking for a tank company that was in the vicinity of the Tokori bridge at the time of the last pullback to the 38th. My father was a forward observer and this tank company fired cover for him and others while they slept after coming back from China. My father recieved frostbite to his legs, and was flown out to a MASH unit. My father is trying to prove medical claims for disability, and would also like to thank those who helped save his life.

Jeff Kane wrote on 2004-10-18 08:24:31.0
Comments: Thanks for your previous help finding out what my uncles patch was. It was the 6th Armored Division. I found his dd-214 this weekend, and am trying to figure out what his unit was.
It says most significant assignment was Sta Comp Cp Chickamaugo 8021 AU APO 32.
I'm pretty sure Sta is Station, Cp is Camp, and Chickamaugo is a typo for Chickamauga. What is Comp? And is 8021 AU the 8021st Army Unit? Or is AU for mail routing through Austrailia or something?
His name was Robert Kane and he was staioned in Japan from Dec 51 til May of 53. He trained in Ft Leonardwood as a carpenter from Nov till Dec 51. He was a PFC when he was discharged.

Robert Kane 6th something? |

Jeff Kane wrote on 2004-10-13 08:59:21.0
Comments: My uncle died Oct 8th 2004. His name was Robert (Bob) Kane. He never talked much about it, but I know he was a carpenter and was stationed in Japan. I think it was late in the war. At his funeral there was a photo of him I never saw before. He had a uniform on.
I am tyring to figure out what the patch is. It is a traingle and had a 6 on it. There was the image of tracks from what could be the bottom of a tank. I don't recall there being a top to it. I always figured he was in some engineering company, but this make me think he was in an armored group.
Anyone recognize that patch description, or remember him? Please email me mailto:jeff@kane1.com.

Howard Thomas James, Jr. |

Joan Cain wrote on 2004-09-26 14:17:38.0
Comments: I am looking for my father's half brother. I was told that he served at Hearbreak Ridge during the Korean War, a story I have not been able to verify as I haven't been able to find him. My aunt told me that he earned a Purple Heart in Korea. When I asked her about him in 1988, all she would tell me was that I didn't want to find him because he was messed up from the war. I'm pretty sure he survived the war. Here are his particulars: Howard Thomas James, Jr., born in Los Angeles, CA, 6/23/1925 Mother's name was Glena J. Ramsey, from Hawaii. Her mother was Hawaiian and her father was Australian. I found Howard, Jr., and his mother living in Stockton, CA, on the 1930 Census with a man named Theodore F. Coppersmith, a cabinet maker. Howard's father was a lawyer and firefighter in L.A., CA, (Howard Thomas James, Sr.) Howard's mother left Howard, Sr. sometime before Sept. of 1928. I don't believe he ever lived with Howard, Sr., again after that. My father, his half-brother, was also born Howard Thomas James (some suffix) in L.A., CA, on 9/7/1928. He always went by Tommy, and I know he and Howard, Jr., were in the Army at the same time at one point because I have a family picture with both of them in their uniforms. My father's sister's name is Darlene Madeline James now Murrill, born in 1933. Sometime between 1933 and 1946, Howard, Sr., moved with my dad, Darlene, and wife (No. 3 or No. 4) Vyrle to Brookings, OR, where they grew Easter Lillies. If this sounds like anyone you know, I can e-mail his picture to you. I would just like to know what happened to him, is he still alive, and did he ever have any children. Thank you, Joan Cain

Comments: I would desperately like to know if anyone out there served with my Dad, he died in 1987. He never spoke about the war, but I am interested in where he was and what he did. He grew up on LI, New York, in the Sayville area. I know from scattered information he was in some really bad situations. He was about 5'7, dark hair and eyes, and a great story teller, with a big laugh, who liked to drink beer and smoke camels. He is greatly missed and I would like my children to know more about their grandfather whom served his country. Any information would be wonderful for myself and my brothers and sisters. Thank You,
Lynda Wright Sowinski

Comments: I am looking for information on my dad, Russell Albert Hughes, while he served in the Korean War from February 1950 - February 1953. He was a medic and was wounded by a Korean bayonet in the right thigh. He survived. I don't know his unit or where in Korea he served, but I am very interested in whether he received his Purple Heart. Please notify me if you have any information. Thank you, and God Bless you vets!

Comments: Hello, I am looking for former buddies of Iverson Minter (today known as Louisiana Red) for a documentary film on Iverson! He served in Korea as paratrooper, gained a hip injury and he played guitar and bluesharp at the time. Iverson Minter was born 1932 in Alabama. His father had been killed by KKK, his mother had died shortly after his birth. Red will visit the states on a concert tour in Sept and would like to meet fellow veterans. Thank you for your help! I am trying to find a picture of him. I have his discharge papers, however, some of the information is faded and hard to read.
Look forward to hearing from anyone that my have some information or can direct me where to look or go for my father's picture.
Thanks, Evandy Gibson

Comments: My father passed away in March of this year. 5 days after his 76th birthday. He was very proud of his service. He would be even more proud to know that he had a military burial. The only story he told me was that the war ended while he was on a ship enroute to Korea. If anyone out there knows about my father, I would greatly appreciate they contact me.
