Keywords: I am trying to research my Dads military background. I have all of his DD214 papers and his service records marked DA 24. Although these have led me in numerous direction I am not familar with some of the army lingo. During the Korean War he was with the 5th Infantry but it does not come up on the above registry any help would be appreciated. He was awarded three bronze stars during Korea and I would very much like to know how, why and when. I have tried the archives in St. Louis and since the fire they do not have any real info that I can use. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it greatly. Thank you, Jerry Boyette

Do you remember Waldo Hernandez or his brother Ralph?

Comments: After his honorable service in Korea, my Great-Uncle Waldo spent some last years in the South West U.S. He was my mom's favorite uncle because of his comedic talents. But he liked to wander. He even labelled himself a hobo. When he quite suddenly stopped checking in with the family, my great aunt hired a PI. His last social security deduction was taken from pay for work at Juan Corona's Sullivan Ranch. We still don't know if beloved Uncle Waldo was one of Juan Corona's 25 victims. In closing this cold case for my family, it might be helpful to learn if he visited any of his brothers-in-arms and if so, when.

Respectfully, Lori L. Wooten

Comments: For years, I've heard my father, Walter Edward Dennis Jr, allege he was at "Pork Chop Hill". He alleges he enlisted February, 1949, in the Arkansas Army National Guard in the 153rd Infantry Division. He states there were 90mm tanks, and he served in the tank company. He also states he served at Fort Knox,KY (Jun 1949) for Armor Basic Training, and proceeded with with Armor Advanced Infantry Training in Sep 1950.He also states he had BMT (Basic Military Training) at Fort Polk (then known as "Camp Polk") in the summer of 1950. He indicates he served with a combat unit in Korea with Company C, 10th Heavy Tank Battalion, Combat Command "A" for twenty-one days in February and March of 1951. He indicates that he was injury when his tank was blown up, that he was evac'd to Japan and then to the United States to the Hot Springs Medical Facility, Hot Springs, AR. in March/April 1951. Following his recouperation, he returned to the Army National Guard 30 Apr 1951 and was discharged 22 Sep 1951. He was a Private/E-2, and served with the 5th Armor Division, Company A, 5th Quartermaster Battalion from the above dates.

Now that I've stated this, let me explain my dilemma. His father, my grandfather, and my uncle, his brother, states he never left the continental United States and was never in Korea.

As he is now almost seventy-five years old, he is unable to do for himself.

My interest is whether he was imaginatively creating his own military history in Korea. I have verified his service from April 1951 through September 1951 with the Arkansas Army National Guard. That much I know is true.

He brings up the men he served with in Korea: 1LT Vitatoe, CPT Early, and 1SG Schoonover. Does anyone remember any of these names?

Thank you for allowing me to post this information. My younger brother states I should just let it drop. He spent a good number of years in the Air Force. I spent 4 years in the Air Force from 1970-1974 and served in Vietnam. I also served in the Louisiana Army National Guard for 4 years, three which were AGR/Full-time.

Keywords: Combat/Company C, 10th Heavy Tank Battalion, Combat Command "A", Korea, Feb/Mar 1951/Wounded, Evacuated to Japan, Mar 3, 1951, then to Hot Springs, AR;

Afterwards served in Arkansas Army National Guard, 5th Armor Division, Company A, 5th Quartermaster Battalion, 30 April 51/22 Sep 51.

Names: 1st Lieutenant Vitatoe (Korea), Captain Early (Korea) and First Sergeant Schoonover (Korea).
