Don passed away in 1989 in Mexico, but I have not been able to obtain a death certificate in all these years. He was a baseball player and later became a manager for the California Angels minor league. He resided in Northern California and Central California. Any information about him could be helpful to me. I sincerely thank you. Tifeni Whittington Ferguson 5-27-2008.

Comments: I am trying to build a memorial case for my uncle and have been working on it for about a year. I was recently told I could not get his records as they were in a fire and gone. I want to build as good a memorial as I can and it has lead to questions. I wanted to see if I can track his service- where he was in Korea- any major battles. Researching some of the badges and medals he is entitled to lead to questions- I think one was his marksman- there were many weapons he may have used... Just trying to put together a record with no records. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction? From his DD214 there were 2 things I tried to google with no luck- 537th FA BN and DA Cir 58 CID III. Thanks for any help!

Brian Flynn wrote on 2008-01-25 20:56:39.0

Comments: Looking for anyone who knows the actual unit my recently deceased grandfather belonged to. His name was Wallace W. Cogean. He was a Staff Sargeant from R.I. I have a lot of written journal information from his time in Korea with a lot of stories. He started his journey to Japan from San Francisco and during the voyage there were 2 times at sea the boat lost power. They camped at Mount Fugi and landed in Korea by nightfall. I know at some point he trained Korean soliders as well. He even has names written in his journal. They constantly moved around while in Korea with him referring to them as the "yo-yo" army. He told stories of rolling out wire and the N.Koreans would cut the line and roll it up to steal it. Also he told stories of raising the radio/radar or something off the ground into the trees. He was in Korea until Spring of 51. In the journal it mentions the 3rd Batallion 17th infantry 7th division 8th Army. His service records i believe were destroyed in a fire and therefore i cannot look them up. I do have his serial number. After he returned home I see a 7th infantry patch on his right shoulder in a photo its the red/back hourglass patch. I don't know how long after he was home that the picture was taken. any information would help. Thanks

Comments: I found a card in Dads things. At the top it says C- Battery, under that, there is a coat of arms. Beneath that it reads 11th Antiaircraft Artillery AW Battalion (self-propelled) United States Army Fairwell Party September 1952. Inside there is a list of the men. The Commanding Officer is Captain F. Stappler. A menu is listed. There are several signatures on the back. Does anyone remember Owen P SYMES. He lives in Summersville wv.

Keywords: My mother has lost the Army Book with his Unit and pictures of him while stationed on an Army Base I think in NC. He played Second Base.(All-star) His nephew, Homer wall, who had a scrapbook of my dad' high school days as an outstanding baseball/basketball player around Shelby, NC during the 1930's ,passed away several years ago and I have not been able to locate anyone with any information concerning that scrapbook Someone from Shelby may have access to the newspaper clipping's from 1930's. Daddy, a big Yankee fan, was known as a talented second base player. I was once told that he had a chance to play with them in the minor leag. Also,I remember seeing pictures/articles in Homer's scrapbook from Shelby newspaper of him playing high school Basketball. One had something about him turning down a scholarship at Duke for a chance with the Yankees. True?? I would like to know for sure.

(1941) He met my mother in Greenwood, SC while playing in a textile coached by Harley Heath, soon was drafted into the Army. I was born in 1942 After the war Daddy returned to Greenwood and played for several more years.

He would have turned 90 year this past November. He was known around Shelby by a nick-name -Simon He had 2 brothers Shay, Jay-1 sister Pauline. His mother was Rada Beason Wall. I never remember meeting anyone from Beason side of his family His mother died in her 30's I think. I would welcome hearing from anyone who knew my dad Howard Beason Wall or his mother. My dad was not one to talk about himself. He died so young and I have forgotten so much of what I did know. We lived in Greenwood, South Carolina for most of mhis adult life. He died in the 1970's while living in Mauldin SC at the age of 54. My mother is still living but she too has lost most of their past. Now that I have retired, I have the time to search for more of his past.

If you have information, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Comments: Unfortunately, all I know is that Walter Hanasko was a Cpl in the Army during the Korean Conflict. My fiance has no pictures of his father and I would like to find one for him. Walter was born 10/11/32 and was from the Brooklyn/Queens area. I don't know if it is possible to get service photos- is there an archive somewhere? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
