SEEKING COURT MARTIAL INFORMATION

DAVID SCOTT wrote on February 5, 2001

City and State: MANASSAS VA

Unit: HQ AIR FORCE, PENTAGON

Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER

Comments: Recently my family was made aware of hearsay evidence my Grandfather (William Scott) was court martialed during or after the Korean War for alleged drunkeness resulting in the loss of life of those under his command or control.

William Scott was an enlisted NCO stationed at Schofield Barracks HI at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack while assigned to the 24th Infantry.

It is rumored he attained officers rank for WWII battlefield service and retained that rank as part of the occupation of Japan and into the initial Korean conflict. We think he was part of the 25th infantry at that point, but could have still been part of the 24th.

He was supposedly cashiered at a Court Martial conducted at Presidio (San Francisco CA) and sentenced to a long prison term. As part of subsequent military reviews of the trials during the appeal process, he served some number of years, but to the extent of punishment imposed by the original court.

After bumming around after his release from military prison, he supposedly committed suicide.

I am an active duty Air Force Officer assigned to the Pentagon, but please do hold that against me. My family would like to know the truth, no matter how painful.

If anyone out there can shed light on this incident, we would appreciate it...if you know anything about William Scott's WWII service, we would like to know that also because the national military personnel center fire destroyed any references we may have found at that source.

William Scott would have been viewed as an old guy to most of the Korean War veterans who were new enlisted troops at the time. There may be former officers who know something also. Please Help.

I can be contacted at office 703-601-2108 or e-mail davida.scott@pentagon.af.mil or send message to my home 14481 Idlebrook Court Manassas VA 20112

Sincerely,
David A. Scott, Major, USAF

WELLINGTON 'BUD' FRYE INFO PLEASE???

Comments: While stateside, Dad BUD FRYE, was stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He was a paratrooper in Korea; I know of an accident (no specific details) of him jumping from plane, chute getting caught and he ended up unconcious in tree tops for hours in Korea until he could be rescued. Years later, he had to have nerves removed from the back of his head as a result of the head injury in Korea and constant pain. He seldom talked about the War; when he did, it was never anything specific. In the 60's, our house was broken into and all his combat medals were stolen. I am trying to piece together his military service record and would appreciate any help. He was originally from MICHIGAN.

DAD DIED IN ACCIDENT AFTER KOREA

SUSAN BOONE wrote on October 2, 2000

City and State: HOLLYWOOD FL

Unit:

Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER

Comments: I am so sorry, and a little ashamed. I do not know what unit my Father was in. I was only 3 years old when he was killed. It's kind of an unusual story. My Dad joined the Air Force when he was 17 years old. He was the youngest of 5 children and they had all married by that time. He did marry my Mother around the age of 18, when he was stationed at a base in Vermont, then he went to Korea, Here I am not even sure when. When he returned he and my Mother divorced when I was 18 months old. He some how got full custudy of me, (remember he was only 21 and this was the early 50's), him being in service he took me to his parents. He went back to korea (I think) and when he returned he remarried (not a nice person) and was stationed at Willow Run in Ypsilanti, Mich. He was killed in an auto accident just off the base on his way home. He had only been back from Korea a few months. He was only a baby, 23 years old, my own daughter is 26. So I never got to know him, the only thing I remember about him was him dyng, I thought he was asleep and had covered up with the flag. Me being so young, and him being so young when he left, his family can only tell things about him as a kid. A little good news I did find my Mother when I was 26, after a long struggle, work, and me finding out that it was my Grandfather who put the stop on me seeing or having contact with her, my Mom and I have a good relationship, we live in the present. She is unable to give me much info because they were only married 2 1/2 years, and he was in Korea most of that. As I said before he had remarried only a few months prior to his death, so she got the flag that was on his casket. After I married myself and was in the midst of trying to "find myself" Finding my Mother ect., I mustered up some courage and swallowed alot of pride (I wont go into detail about her)I went to her and asked her if I could have his flage and the guitar that he had in the car with him when he was killed. Her reply "I THREW THEM AWAY" The Flag that he had fought to defend, the symbol of our freedom, that flag that covered him ---- thrown away! this whole long "book" is that I am trying to find someone who may have served with him, and maybe they could tell me some about my Dad. He was a Staf. Sgt. Stationed A Willow Run, and was killed on June 5, 1955, He was from a very small town in Upper East Tennessee, the only other place that I know he was stationed was Akaska (sorry don't know dates), and Vermont (again I don't know the name of the base, but could get that from my Mother). Thank you for letting me vent and for those of you how take the time to read.May God keep all Veterns safe, an please don't let another young man shed blood on Foreign soil. Susan

8TH ARMY SIGNAL CORPS IN TAIGU AND SEOUL

Service or Relationship: ARMY VETERAN - KOREA

Comments: I would like to know the number of the Signal Corps unit that was stationed just outside Taigu in 1951 and also billeted at the old Korean Palace in Seoul. We did our shifts in buildings on the University of Seoul grounds and ate at a mess hall about a mile from where we bunked. It would be nice to hear from anyone who was in this outfit.

Comments: I am trying to find out any information about my father whom I never knew. I know that his name was Marvin Lockslee Washburn and that he served in the U.S. Army, possibly during the Korean War (I am not sure of this). I am sending off for his records, but do not have high hopes due to the fire. I do know that he is buried in Keokuk National Cemetery in Iowa. He passed on in 1989.
I know that this is not a lot of information, but,
if anyone would happen to have information
(photos??). I would be thrilled to hear from you.
Thank you.
