Comments: My step dads name was Marvin Anthony Fannan, but everyone who knew him called him Nick. I don't know much about his service, but I would love to know if he was on the list in Oregon, so I could get a rubbing of his name. Thanks.

Keywords: I don't know where he served, but I do know he was out by 1953.

Comments: My dad was a very tight-lipped man on the subject of the korean war. He died in 2001 at age 72, nearly a month after the attacks on the World Trade Center. In many ways, I didn't know him well. Any information you can send me (and my five brothers and sisters) would be welcome and greatly appreciated.

Thanks you

Comments: I am trying to build a memorial case for my uncle and have been working on it for about a year. I was recently told I could not get his records as they were in a fire and gone. I want to build as good a memorial as I can and it has lead to questions. I wanted to see if I can track his service- where he was in Korea- any major battles. Researching some of the badges and medals he is entitled to lead to questions- I think one was his marksman- there were many weapons he may have used... Just trying to put together a record with no records. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction? From his DD214 there were 2 things I tried to google with no luck- 537th FA BN and DA Cir 58 CID III. Thanks for any help!

Comments: My father, Edward J. McGinley, deceased, served in an artillery unit during the Korean War. He was a 2nd Lieutenant and I recall him saying that he had served as a forward observer and was serving on the front line on the day the armistice went into effect in 1953. I'd be grateful for any information that anyone could provide me about his unit, his time in the service, etc.

Comments: My grandfather, Sgt. Donald Wade Russell, passed away 19 years ago. Since I was only 7 when he died, I have few memories of him. It is very important that I learn all I can about him, and his service in the Korean War. We didn't find out until after his death that he was shot while in Korea. I dont know if this is the right forum, but any info anyone can provide is appreciated. I found a book that shows he was in the 47th Infantry Division, 682nd Engineer Battalion, C Company.

My wife recalls him talking about the war some and that he was in a tank division but we don't know which one. Is there any way we might find this out ? So far in the past year we keep coming to dead ends. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Wallace W. Cogean

Brian Flynn wrote on 2008-01-25 20:56:39.0

Comments: Looking for anyone who knows the actual unit my recently deceased grandfather belonged to. His name was Wallace W. Cogean. He was a Staff Sargeant from R.I. I have a lot of written journal information from his time in Korea with a lot of stories. He started his journey to Japan from San Francisco and during the voyage there were 2 times at sea the boat lost power. They camped at Mount Fugi and landed in Korea by nightfall. I know at some point he trained Korean soliders as well. He even has names written in his journal. They constantly moved around while in Korea with him referring to them as the "yo-yo" army. He told stories of rolling out wire and the N.Koreans would cut the line and roll it up to steal it. Also he told stories of raising the radio/radar or something off the ground into the trees. He was in Korea until Spring of 51. In the journal it mentions the 3rd Batallion 17th infantry 7th division 8th Army. His service records i believe were destroyed in a fire and therefore i cannot look them up. I do have his serial number. After he returned home I see a 7th infantry patch on his right shoulder in a photo its the red/back hourglass patch. I don't know how long after he was home that the picture was taken. any information would help. Thanks

Comments: My uncle served with 3rd ID in the Korean War. I think his service was in the early part of the war ('50-'52?). I don't know which regiment he was with, but I think he was at Chosin Reservoir. If anyone has information about what units he served with, I (along with the rest of his family) would appreciate hearing from you. We lost him yesterday after a long, good life. He was a good man. He is being buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetary in St. Louis today.
