Comments: I'm trying to find out what happened to a beautiful little toddler in an orphanage in Teague, Korea. She stood out from the 300 babies and toddlers in that orphanage because of her red hair. She had the delicate Asian facial features and red hair of an American GI. If anyone can help me locate her or tell me what happened to her , I would appreciate it very much.
Keywords: I'm not interested in contacting any of the EM of Ordinance, Eighth Army Headquarter, Teague, Korea. None of my buddies cared about the Korean orphanage mentioned below. See Comments

Comments: We are looking for info for our family tree about Frank M. Ward of Columbus, Ohio. His last assignment was with the 45th Recon Squad. It ended with his being shot down over enemy territory. He was shot down near Kaesong. He was severely injured but rescued and airlifted to Japan. When he recovered, he was sent to Shaw Field in South Carolina. We suspect he may have been in another unit prior. We have info that he 'made a daring attack on the retreating enemy' and won the Distuinguished Flying Cross, with Oak Leaf Clusters. Like others, his records were lost in the fire and he is now deceased. Please contact me if you knew him. Thanks!

My Grandfather Herbert Henry Hayton |
 |
 |
Dalaine Piesker wrote on 2008-05-08 13:09:31.0
Comments: I have started a family tree/history project, I am looking to gain more stories and information from when my grandfather served in the USAF. I know that he had a temporary assignment at Hamilton AFB in route to Elmendorf AFB, the time span is approx 1949-1950. When he was stationed at Elmendorf, he kept his assignment as part of "MATS". He was involved in the transportation of troops and supplies to the Korean War, and he was promoted to Corporal. The story gets a little bit weird, there was an incident that had occurred to my grandfather and the men that he served with, he does not like to talk about this, and from what I have gathered from other family members, there was a plane crash, and he was the only surviving member on the plane. After this incident he spent one year inbetween two hospitals in the US- the 183rd General Hospital at Fort Richardson, Anchorage Alaska and Valley Forge General Hospital, Phoenixville Pennsylvania. After he was released from the hospitals he was sent to Fort Slocum, New Rochelle, New York, it was here that he had to await his next assignment. At some point in 1951, my grandfather was assigned to the 1st Air Force 52nd Fighter Wing 568th Air Base Group at McGuire AFB, New Jersey. He worked as a Postal Clerk and was promoted to Sgt and made NCO. After his 4 years (total time) he was honorably discharged. He re-enlisted 3 months later back into the USAF and was stationed at Sampson AFB, Geneva New York, his assignment was to train Basic's (new airmen). In July of 1953, he married my grandmother, then the new regulation came out which allowed him to be honorably discharged, giving him a total of 5 1/2 years proudly serving in the USAF. My grandfather's name is Herbert Henry Hayton, he joined the service is February of 1948, he hailed from Rochester, New York. If anyone remembers him, served with him, took care of him at the hospitals or whatever, I would appreciate it if you could contact me and tell me about my grandfather. He is still alive and doing very well, but the memories still haunt him and he doesn't like to talk about it, so I will take whatever help that I can get. Thanks for protecting the American dream, and the American people, and thank you for helping me to complete my family history.

Comments: I am looking for information about my father's military service. Both of my parents died when my sister and I were young and neither of them thought to tell us about his service. His records were destroyed in a fire at the VA in the 1970's. After 14 years of searching we finally compiled enough information to have his grave marker ordered and placed.
This is all that I know:
Name: James Taylor Flynn
Service Dates: August 6, 1951 - April 5, 1957
Discharge: Honorable
Rank: Staff Sergeant
I would appreciate any information that anyone has about where and in what units he served in. I'd also like to know what he actually did, and whether he went to Korea.

Comments: I am looking for any information about an RAF Pilot Flt.Lte. W.T.L. Rigby RAF. He was usually known as Les Rigby. Both Les and his wife are now deceased, but his daughter has a letter from his wife saying that he flew F84's with the USAF in Korea in 1953.
I know that a few RAF pilots flew with the USAF but information is hard to find. He flew Spitfires in Burma during WWII, then Korea (I have his Korea medal) and then spent quite a few years flying with the Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force after converting to helicopters.
If anybody has any information at all I would be pleased to hear from you.

We know he was in the Air Force reserves and became active during the Korean War (was navy pilot in WWII). His name was John A Anderson II (aka Andy during his service years). He was born in 1923 and would have been an older pilot involved in short term possibly special ops activities. He was from Mass. and spoke with a strong Weymouth accent with a slight Swedish inflection. He was about 5'10", 140 lbs, round face, curly hair but balding at the front. Training was in electicial engineering, radar and aeronautics design. My father retired a colonel in 1973. We have been unable to receive any records from the NPRC. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

When I attempt to do so online I get this message "you are unauthorized". He was stationed @ I believe MaCallen AFB in Texas . At my fathers funeral ('94) I was surprised to see military rep's show up & they were cold as stone too.. Are my brothers & myself not entitled to know how our father served our great country ?

Comments: I have been unable to find any info about this crash, but know it happened, as have had contact with the doctor who cared for the person who rescued both my father and Chappy James from the burning plane. It was in 1950 or 51, and he married my mother, Elizabeth Anne Tinsley who at the time was an AF nurse who cared for him. He was in a body cast for 14 months in the hospital at Dayton. He retired in 1958, I believe from Brooks Field in San Antonio, Texas, and trained pilots at Randolph for a while, too. Prior to that he was in AAC 390th Bob Group bombing Germany in 1945. Only have scattered info, as he wouldn't talk about it much. He also served in Korea from April or May of 1953 to 1954.

First F-105 Thuds to Osan |

Edward Marek wrote on 2005-12-25 16:12:32.0
Comments: I am writing a story for my web site, talkingproud.us, about the "Second korean War" in the period 1965-1969. I know that the F-105 Thunderchief was deployed to Osan to replace the B-57B of the 3rd Bomb Wing in 1964. But I have not been able to identify the specific squadron to deploy. I believe it was from the 8th TFW, either the 35th or 36th, but cannot confirm it. And if it were from the 8 TFW, well, it did not stay for long, because it went back to the states in 1964, converted to the F-4, and went to Thailand. So I am at a loss which squadrons supplied the Thud to Osan in the period 1964-1968. A ton of units came over after the Pueblo, so that's not my problem. The question has to do with which squadron(s) supplied the Thuds 1964-1968.

Comments: I just wanted to write a quick memorial to my Daddy, who passed on November 4, 2005. He was a proud veteran of the USAF and was a Korean War Vet. He worked civil service for the rest of his career and earned the Meritorious Civil Service Award upon his retiremnet in 1988.
He was a brilliant, loving man and loved his country. He was passionate about our government and researched and argued his points up until the day before he died. I'm sure his email/chat groups will miss him! Well, I hope they do...
Dad is part of a long line of military service in our family, including: both of my brothers and both of my nephews. We have served from the Revolutionary War and up to today.
He was a proud veteran.
I just wanted to say good-bye and to let anyone who knew him know he passed peacefully.
I love you and miss you so much, Daddy! Kim

Comments: Hi! Hope all of you had a great Memorial Day weekend. We need your help. I work at the Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum in Denton, TX.
We are looking for information on Bob Lawson who was in the Air Force in Korea in the 1950s. We think that he died in about 1953, probably in Korea. We also have his name listed as Robert Lawson and Joseph Robert Lawson. He was the husband of Annetta Moten Lawson whom he married the early 1940s. We know that he was drafted in WWII. Before that he had been an Assistant Librarian for the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. We know that when he was stateside in the Air Corps he worked in Personnel and that he was a T/Sgt at that time. Also, he was stationed in New Mexico and in the early 1950s, Okinawa. We have recently acquired the collection of his father-in-law, Dr. Edwin D. Moten who was a prominent African American doctor in Denton and later in Indianapolis. We are looking for more details about Bob Lawson's career in the military and his death. We really appreciate your help. You can contact me
Many thanks from old Donut Dollie.

I was told that my father was killed in the Korean War, my Japanese mother died of a heart disease. My father's name was Lee Ward, from Virginia, and my mother's name was Michiko Tatebe. I have pictures that were taken of my mother and me...some probably by my father, one by a studio photographer. This is all I know. If anyone could provide me with any information, I would appreciate it so very, very much. If they are, by any chance, still living, I would like for them to know that they have five beautiful, healthy, happy grown grandchildren, and two lovely great grandaughters.

I was born in FUKUOKA, Japan on May 6, 1951. My mother's name was MICHIKO TATABE. I have a couple of photographs of my mother and me, which I believe were taken by him (given my mother's expression). Also, a professionally made photo from a studio in Nagoya. I was placed in a Catholic orphanage when I was about 2 1/2 years old. I was told by my adoptive parents (stationed at Camp Gifu) that I was told that the reason for this was that my mother was dying and my father had been killed in the war. I was told that his name was LEE WARD, that he was from VIRGINIA and that perhaps he was an M.P., because everytime I saw a policeman, I would point and say "That's my daddy" in Japanese. That was very likely due to seeing any man in uniform. I don't want anything from him. I would just like for him to know that he has five grandchildren, beautiful in spirit and looks, and three lovely great granddaughters. Monique Frazier

Comments: I am searching for anyone who might have known my father while he served in the Korean War. His name is Edward Brito. He often went by Eddie. He never spoke of the war the us children, but he did say he had a child with a Korean woman while stationed there. I know nothing about his unit or what he did for the Air Force. If anyone has ANY information, please reply asap. He passed away Feb. 17,2002, leaving a lot of untold stories. I'd give anything to hear just one story from one person who served with him, or at least to know exactly where he was stationed, with what unit, etc. Any help would greatly help to heal some old wounds for me.

Comments: My father was involved in getting abandoned Korean children out of the combat zone and getting an orphanage started in Seoul. He wrote a letter home to his mother asking for the women of their church to send clothing, and the letter must have made the papers, as boxes of clothing and shoes came pouring in. I want to know more about the orphanage, if anyone knows.
Also, would love to know about a man named Robinson who was stationed w/ my father. He speaks very kindly of him. When asked, he said he'd like to hear from him, but doesn't know where to start looking.

Looking for Dennis M. Compos and Dave Paul Adams |
 |
 |
Heather Davis wrote on 2002-02-24 12:14:23.0
Comments: Hi, I am looking for two of my dad's friends. My dad's name is Don Lee Davis. I am looking for Dennis M. Compos and Dave Paul Adams. My dad met Dennis at USAF Instrument Specialist School at Chanute AFB in 1949. We think that Dennis was later assigned to Hamilton AFB in CA and then sent to a transport squadron in Korea - maybe Kimpo AFB at time of North Korean invasion. He might have been KIA in Korea, but I can't find any record of that.
Dave Paul Adams met my dad at USAF Airplane Mechanic school at Kessler AFB in Biloxi Miss, class 03248. We think he was assigned to tow target squadron at Barksdale AFB, Miss. He was in the Air Cadet class 50D and assigned to the Ist strategic support squadron at Biggs AFB, El Paso TX where he was a 2nd Lt. After the Korean War he was employed by Blue Mountain Air Service in Oregon. Please, any information you might have on these two people, or if you ARE one of them, please contact me. My dad wants to see you both again! Thanks, Heather Davis

Comments: Hello. My name is Jeff Toler. I am a 26 year old professional living in Connecticut. Recently in talks with my mother I have developed a strong interest in learning more about my family history and more about the grandfather that I never knew. He was a decorated Air Force Veteran who served in both W.W.II and the Korean War. Also was a survivor of the Bataan Death March but due to a brain tumor believed to be caused from the March he passed away in 1966. I am currently looking to obtain more information on this decorated soldier....my grandfather. If you have any additional information on him which you can forward to me it would be greatly appreciated. I will list his name below. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions. Thank you. Reuben K. "Tex" Toler - Air Force 7/13/24-4/24/66

Jaime Wellman wrote on 2001-05-16 01:00:27.0
Comments: I am currently searching for any information on my grandfather, George Rasky. I don't know much, as I never was fortunate enough to meet him. However, I do know from a picture that he was in the Air Force. From what I understand, he was a naviator in the plane "My Darling Patricia". He was originally from Indiana.
I am looking for anyone who may know anything about him. I do know him from what my mother and uncles tell me, however, my grandmother pasted away many years ago before I ever knew to even ask about him. I am hoping to find someone (as difficult as that may be) who may have known him. I would like to get know how he was as well as the things that he may have been a part of. I do not know when he served, the unit he was in, or anything else that would aid in my search. I am going purely on hope.
