Kathleen Specht McCown wrote on 2006-02-26 14:42:38.0

Comments: I have been unable to find any info about this crash, but know it happened, as have had contact with the doctor who cared for the person who rescued both my father and Chappy James from the burning plane. It was in 1950 or 51, and he married my mother, Elizabeth Anne Tinsley who at the time was an AF nurse who cared for him. He was in a body cast for 14 months in the hospital at Dayton. He retired in 1958, I believe from Brooks Field in San Antonio, Texas, and trained pilots at Randolph for a while, too. Prior to that he was in AAC 390th Bob Group bombing Germany in 1945. Only have scattered info, as he wouldn't talk about it much. He also served in Korea from April or May of 1953 to 1954.

First F-105 Thuds to Osan

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Edward Marek wrote on 2005-12-25 16:12:32.0

Comments: I am writing a story for my web site, talkingproud.us, about the "Second korean War" in the period 1965-1969. I know that the F-105 Thunderchief was deployed to Osan to replace the B-57B of the 3rd Bomb Wing in 1964. But I have not been able to identify the specific squadron to deploy. I believe it was from the 8th TFW, either the 35th or 36th, but cannot confirm it. And if it were from the 8 TFW, well, it did not stay for long, because it went back to the states in 1964, converted to the F-4, and went to Thailand. So I am at a loss which squadrons supplied the Thud to Osan in the period 1964-1968. A ton of units came over after the Pueblo, so that's not my problem. The question has to do with which squadron(s) supplied the Thuds 1964-1968.

Kimberly Phillips wrote on 2005-11-14 11:31:11.0

Comments: I just wanted to write a quick memorial to my Daddy, who passed on November 4, 2005. He was a proud veteran of the USAF and was a Korean War Vet. He worked civil service for the rest of his career and earned the Meritorious Civil Service Award upon his retiremnet in 1988.

He was a brilliant, loving man and loved his country. He was passionate about our government and researched and argued his points up until the day before he died. I'm sure his email/chat groups will miss him! Well, I hope they do...

Dad is part of a long line of military service in our family, including: both of my brothers and both of my nephews. We have served from the Revolutionary War and up to today.

He was a proud veteran.

I just wanted to say good-bye and to let anyone who knew him know he passed peacefully.

I love you and miss you so much, Daddy! Kim

Comments: Hi! Hope all of you had a great Memorial Day weekend. We need your help. I work at the Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum in Denton, TX.

We are looking for information on Bob Lawson who was in the Air Force in Korea in the 1950s. We think that he died in about 1953, probably in Korea. We also have his name listed as Robert Lawson and Joseph Robert Lawson. He was the husband of Annetta Moten Lawson whom he married the early 1940s. We know that he was drafted in WWII. Before that he had been an Assistant Librarian for the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. We know that when he was stateside in the Air Corps he worked in Personnel and that he was a T/Sgt at that time. Also, he was stationed in New Mexico and in the early 1950s, Okinawa. We have recently acquired the collection of his father-in-law, Dr. Edwin D. Moten who was a prominent African American doctor in Denton and later in Indianapolis. We are looking for more details about Bob Lawson's career in the military and his death. We really appreciate your help. You can contact me

Many thanks from old Donut Dollie.

July 27th, 1995 from the Honor Roll Tent at Koran War Veterans Memorial
Ted, It's Dave Again. Actually, I met you today at the Korean War
Memorial with John Charles Hertzberg from VA. We are pushing your home

I have a request for any information on a Walker Melville
Mahurin (could be Mahuren). He was a POW. Fighter Pilot.

Please e-mail info to Martha Ann Clark from DISA clark3m@cc.ims.disa.mil

Thanks,

Ted,

I know nothing about Herzberg. My inquiry is about Walker Melville
"Bud" Mahurin (could be Mahuren), Korean USAF Fighter Pilot, last man
US POW to walk out of Freedom Village (met by Chappie James) at
Panmunjong (sp?).  Bud's fighter pilot call sign was "Honest John";
also the name of the book he wrote about his Korean War experiences.

Super thanks on anything you can come up with.

Richard A. Grablin

I am looking for information on my grandfather, Richard A. Grablin who
was in the Air Force during the Korean War. I have requested info from
the national archives and received the forms in return, but
unfortunately I do not possess much of the information they require.

I do know that he was born Feb 23, 1921 in Colfax, Iowa and was
stationed as a cadet at Lowry Field in Denver. He was awarded the
Distinguished Flying Cross at some point in his career. I do not know
when he died, or what unit he was with (he was a pilot). Any
information you could provide is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

1st Lt. John M. Gilbert III

From:
John Gilbert psher6207@s2.sonnet.com

My father, 1st Lt. John M. Gilbert III, was killed in Korea in June of
1951. He was an aviator and was flying C119's. The only information I
have is that the all the planes flying in the formation were involved
in a military accident. I believe that they were hit by allied
artillery.

The official death notification only says, cause of death, aircraft
accident, line of duty, not misconduct. My mother never talked about
it and died when I was very young. I had no contact with any member of
my father's family until I was 18.

All photos and records were destroyed by fire when I was about 4 years
old. At any rate, my father was from Rochester, NY. I subsequently
received many photos and letters but never any details of what really
happened.

I have a newspaper clipping which indicates that three planes were shot
down. Other than that I know very little. If anyone remembers any
incident where some C119's were shot down I would greatly appreciate the
information.

Thank you very much.

Airman John Kunteski - MIA

From: BuckyFirst@aol.com
Date: Fri, 20 Sep 1996

Airman John Kunteski, a tail gunner in a B-29, was lost over Korea
during the Korean War and has never been heard from since.

A search for his name on your web site has proven futile. No matches
were found. What could have been his fate?

Does anyone even know that he is lost? Birthplace, Riverside, NJ,
present age would be approx 65 years old.

This is a mystery that people in Riverside have been needing to have
solved for over 40 years.
