Orphanage in Seoul - 1950-51 |

Bev York wrote on 2003-04-16 01:39:20.0
Comments: My father was involved in getting abandoned Korean children out of the combat zone and getting an orphanage started in Seoul. He wrote a letter home to his mother asking for the women of their church to send clothing, and the letter must have made the papers, as boxes of clothing and shoes came pouring in. I want to know more about the orphanage, if anyone knows.
Also, would love to know about a man named Robinson who was stationed w/ my father. He speaks very kindly of him. When asked, he said he'd like to hear from him, but doesn't know where to start looking.
Keywords: Eldon Bell, from South Dakota, was a mechanic w/ Air Force, spent a lot of time on getting trucks out of snowbanks and on patrols.

While serving during the Korean War, he was a plane mechanic. I wish I knew more, but what I do know makes me proud. God keep you Papa.

Comments: I am searching for a person who served in Korea and Japan with my father in law, Howard Alvin Cowdrey, of Georgetown, Ohio. The first name is Casimir or Casmir, middle name Eugene, last name is something like Cyanowski. Sorry I can't be more specific, we're dealing with old recollections by older family members. This person may have information about a relationship he had with a japanese lady during occupation, with whom he fathered a child. My wife, now 44, has only recently learned that she has a half sister, and she wishes to attempt locating her. Any help, and any suggestions, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My father managed to escape after being held for some time and was eventually rescued by u.s. forces & returned stateside to serve out his time somewhere around utah, nevada or the dakotas. my father died recently and recounted this death-bed story to a long-time friend. none of the family had ever heard it, so i'm seeking information that may shed light on his service. any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Heather Davis wrote on 2002-02-24 12:14:23.0
Comments: Hi, I am looking for two of my dad's friends. My dad's name is Don Lee Davis. I am looking for Dennis M. Compos and Dave Paul Adams. My dad met Dennis at USAF Instrument Specialist School at Chanute AFB in 1949. We think that Dennis was later assigned to Hamilton AFB in CA and then sent to a transport squadron in Korea - maybe Kimpo AFB at time of North Korean invasion. He might have been KIA in Korea, but I can't find any record of that.
Dave Paul Adams met my dad at USAF Airplane Mechanic school at Kessler AFB in Biloxi Miss, class 03248. We think he was assigned to tow target squadron at Barksdale AFB, Miss. He was in the Air Cadet class 50D and assigned to the Ist strategic support squadron at Biggs AFB, El Paso TX where he was a 2nd Lt. After the Korean War he was employed by Blue Mountain Air Service in Oregon. Please, any information you might have on these two people, or if you ARE one of them, please contact me. My dad wants to see you both again! Thanks, Heather Davis

POW - Walker Melville "Bud" Mahurin
July 27th, 1995 from the Honor Roll Tent at Koran War Veterans Memorial
Ted, It's Dave Again. Actually, I met you today at the Korean War
Memorial with John Charles Hertzberg from VA. We are pushing your home
page.
I have a request for any information on a Walker Melville
Mahurin (could be Mahuren). He was a POW. Fighter Pilot.
Please e-mail info to Martha Ann Clark from DISA clark3m@cc.ims.disa.mil
Thanks,
Dave

Ted,
I know nothing about Herzberg. My inquiry is about Walker Melville
"Bud" Mahurin (could be Mahuren), Korean USAF Fighter Pilot, last man
US POW to walk out of Freedom Village (met by Chappie James) at
Panmunjong (sp?). Bud's fighter pilot call sign was "Honest John";
also the name of the book he wrote about his Korean War experiences.
Super thanks on anything you can come up with.

Richard A. Grablin
I am looking for information on my grandfather, Richard A. Grablin who
was in the Air Force during the Korean War. I have requested info from
the national archives and received the forms in return, but
unfortunately I do not possess much of the information they require.
I do know that he was born Feb 23, 1921 in Colfax, Iowa and was
stationed as a cadet at Lowry Field in Denver. He was awarded the
Distinguished Flying Cross at some point in his career. I do not know
when he died, or what unit he was with (he was a pilot). Any
information you could provide is greatly appreciated.
Nov 17 2000 - Editor note: there is no contact for Melissa any longer, update needed.
Thank you.

Ted: Melissa Schumann with aol address as cwshoe was looking for info on
Cpt. Grablin. That address is no longer a good one. I don't know the date
of her message on KWP web site. According to USAF web site on casualties,
his date of death was Sep 3 1951 in an accident in South Korea. The date of
death may or may not be accurate. You may or may not have a newer email for

1st Lt. John M. Gilbert III
From:
John Gilbert psher6207@s2.sonnet.com
My father, 1st Lt. John M. Gilbert III, was killed in Korea in June of
1951. He was an aviator and was flying C119's. The only information I
have is that the all the planes flying in the formation were involved
in a military accident. I believe that they were hit by allied
artillery.
The official death notification only says, cause of death, aircraft
accident, line of duty, not misconduct. My mother never talked about
it and died when I was very young. I had no contact with any member of
my father's family until I was 18.
All photos and records were destroyed by fire when I was about 4 years
old. At any rate, my father was from Rochester, NY. I subsequently
received many photos and letters but never any details of what really
happened.
I have a newspaper clipping which indicates that three planes were shot
down. Other than that I know very little. If anyone remembers any
incident where some C119's were shot down I would greatly appreciate the
information.
Thank you very much.

great.
Comments on what was not issued, but needed by the troops and any
"lessons" Korean Vets could pass on to todays troops would be very
helpfull and informative.

old photos of him.
His name is Ronald Eugene Rosier, and he was in the army air corps?
in korea. all I really know is that he worked on planes.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. I have a photo my mother gave
me with my father sitting in a plane in korea the wording on the side of
the plane is FS-098.
Someone wrote at the bottom of the photo "Taken in Tague, Korea 1952"
Thanks for your assistance, I really appreciate it.

ps: my father did not die in korea and he is still alive but does not
recall much from that time period.
Airman John Kunteski - MIA
From: BuckyFirst@aol.com
Date: Fri, 20 Sep 1996
Airman John Kunteski, a tail gunner in a B-29, was lost over Korea
during the Korean War and has never been heard from since.
A search for his name on your web site has proven futile. No matches
were found. What could have been his fate?
Does anyone even know that he is lost? Birthplace, Riverside, NJ,
present age would be approx 65 years old.
This is a mystery that people in Riverside have been needing to have
solved for over 40 years.

sister, Evelyn (location unknown).
The Nickel family resided on the far North side of Chicago.
It is believed Jack may have moved to western mountain states
