Comments: Old Lieutenant Press announces Trish Schiesser's latest book "These Guys" Cold War Stories Told by Cold War Warriors, Collected and Edited by Schiesser, SSGT Phil Noland's *USAFSS*, sister. The book contains 240 first person stories told by those who served during the Cold War Era between Russia and the U.S. The book is filled with stories by those who were in the USAFSS in intelligence communications, and stories of pilots in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Trish Schiesser collected and edited "These Guys" during her seven year research study about the USAFSS, among other entities. She began the book as a story about her brother, SSGT Phil Noland who was a Radio Intercept Analyst for the USAFSS then found so many good men who also served in the USAFSS that she decided to use their personal stories, hence the book, "These Guys." It has been highly praised by all of those who have purchased it, and is in the library of congress, the library of The Wilson Center for International Scholars (CWHIP) in Washington, D.C. and will appear in The Cold War Times in Nov. issue, by Francis Gary Powers, Jr., and appear in The Cold War Museum in Fairfax, VA created and run by Francis Gary Powers, Jr. If you are interested in the high praise reviews of this fascinating history book of Cold War Era Intelligence, etc., please send for a copy by contacting: portengineerbob@msn.com or Clara19126@msn.com. The cost of the book is $24.00 includes s&h and tax. Send for your copy today. It is written by guys like YOU. And, we thank you for your fine service to your country during the Cold War.
Old Lieutenant Press and (Trish Schiesser, Author, Literary Consultant and Editor, and sister of SSGT Phil Noland).

Bob Guiterez was one, we became friends. When I shipped back to Kelley in 1959, Bob came shortly behind me. We had a lot of fun times in San Antonio too. I have never seen his name listed in any of the contacts anywhere. Does anyone know about him?

I remember you....I also was with the 6314 Comm. Sqdn. teletype operator..Email me at cedarkey@verizon.net.

Maureen Hunt wrote on 2009-05-05 14:13:27.0
Comments: A "friend" of the family told me during the summer of 1999 that my father was previously married and that there was, she believed, a son born. Since this has never come up in family conversation and I am "sworn to secrecy" I need to take it upon myself to find out if this is true. My oldest sister believes that she was named after the mother, Regina. My parents were married 2-24-57, so the marriage was before that, naturally. Come summer, I have been harboring this information for 10 years. My parents are not the "ask me anything" type, so I have to slueth this out on my own. My father was in the Air Force: basic in Texas and then stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and either stationed or visited Colorado and San Francisco. He was born Robert Meade Hunt, Jr. (he dropped the Jr. after his father died). Maybe you think this is none of my business since my parents never talked about it, but I'm going to be 48 years old by the end of May and I've always wanted a brother.

Some of you who went through voice intercept training at 8th RSM, Brooks AFB 51 - 54 may remember him as Staff Sgt Keith Dodd. Stumbled onto this page and couldn't help but wonder if there might be another dinosaur like us out there. If there is anyone else out there I would love to get an email from you.

Comments: Seeking old friends who served with me at Yale's IFEL in class K-4-61, at Goodfellow AFB, then in the 6929th RSM at Osan AFB, Korea. Have info on Raymond Coyazo, Lad Culkowski, Jerry Van Meter, "Pete" Dinwoodie, Joe Gilmore. Looking for Paul Binkley, Frank Coleman, Ken Harris, Claude Woods, Edward "Mike" Helldoerfer, Robert Pankratz, Capt. Bromley. Also looking for IFEL Chinese student roommate Tom Allington, Corning, NY, and any others who remember me. I've self-published a memoir of my early life, which only briefly mentions my USAF service. It has been successful enough that I'm working on a sequel which will contain more about my USAFSS experiences, and I would like to include comments, reminiscences, and stories from these valued old friends. History becomes intensely interesting when you realize you are part of it.

Comments: Our father George William Riopelle was stationed at Burtonwood Airforce Base in England in 1953, believed to have had a relationship with a woman ny the name of Chrissy Cathrow prior to meeting our biological mother Elizabeth Alice Cooper who lived in Warrington, Lancashire County, England. The result of this relationship with Chrissy Cathrow resulted in a set of twins, unsure whether are male or female. We are adopted and we are searching for family members in England. Our biological mothers name was Elizabeth Alice Cooper and she had siblings by the names of Robert, James, Percy, Cecil Leslie, and Lillian. There were also three adopted childrem who we believe were the children of Robert. Their names were John Cornelius, Margaret Rose, and Maureen Adelaide. Any information on any of these people would be greatly appreciated. I also believe that George William Riopelle our bilogical father met our mother through one of her brothers. There street address in Warrington was 13 Marron Road. My e-mail address is queen123@comcast.net

Comments: St. Lawrence Island 1953-54. "Painless" Potter was on my shift, a very good friend of mine, also a man by the name of King. Captain Amrhein had just made Major. He was pilot of the aircraft. "Maw" Decker was the 6x6 driver from Elmendorff to Green Lakes before me moved into the 500 man barracks. Cpl. Ed Teal was the other driver. It broke by heart when the plane crashed because I was personal friends with Amrhein and several others including Potter. Do you remember when we would come out of mids and Montgomery would cook us steak and eggs or whatever we wanted. The coffee was black and strong. Amrhein would often drink coffee with us. Sgt. Vincent B. Murphy, Joe Roach was Clerk of the Orderly Room, Bob Saxton and Robert Pill were guitar players. I blew the harmonica and Chester Dunlap played the mandolin. We played at the "Fur Rendevous" in Hangar 4 at Elmendorff. Our band was the "Davy Crockett Band" - all country music. Other friends in 6981st were Archie Redden, Eugene "Possum" Spear; Sabas De La Santos, H. G. W. Shane and Royce Renfro. My tour was Radio School at Kessler 1952-53; 6981st Scarwaf 712 AC&W; worked Dew Line from Phillipine Islands; Thule, Greenland; Brandeze, Italy; Anakar, Turkey; Suez Canal; Tipoli, Libya; Algiers, Algeria; Climatic Hangar in Eglin Field, Florida. Worked the 3300 VMTG, Stead AFB in Reno, Nevada as an instructor. I would love to hear from you. I'm almost 70 years old.

Comments: Arrived at Landsberg November 1952. While waiting for the security clearance I did guard duty at Kaufburen detachment at the gate to opertions. Went back to Landsberg in January 1953 and was assigned OJT along side John R. Cash copying CW until I learned the procedure. I had a reel to reel tape recorder and would record J.R. and the boys while they picked and grinned, on our days off, in the basement of the barracks and operations building. Transferred to the 37th RSM Kirknewton in October 1953 and back to the states in September 1955 when I was dischrged as S/SGT.

Comments: I remember from Jan 53 until the Spring it snowed or rained everyday. TheSwimming season was from Aug 1st until the 7th, when the water was still too cold. the 1st lived up to its name in sports, winning all the sporting events and having champion boxers(2). Captain Plyler(Oklahoma?) told his illustrious war stories of Chenault's flying Tigers flying both Chang Kai Shek and Mao to wage a common war against the Japanese. The snow didn't get too high at Wakainai in '53-54, but I read where it set records the following year.
I remember S/Maj Benny Hom was a WWII Veteran, And there were two CO's during my period there, Col Brady and Col. Shepard. Sgt Hale had a short tour, and one man who was left Multi-millions and went home to settle the estate.
The Softball Season was played in cold and wind, atfields just West of the Barracks, specifically the Tin Quonset Huts,, that weren't really that.
Richard Roth, was in Personnel, Villeneuve 20370 and Major White and Madole in Ops.
Good memoraries all.

Comments: Anybody know any of the above? Anyone have any stories to tell?
Loved the snorkeling trips along the coast,East of the 34th, where we charcoal broiled steaks, drank beer, swam and snorkled in the pristine Medterranean waters. Remember catching small squids on one trip. We thought we were all alone on a remote stretch of beach when out of nowhere 3 "gooks", (Libyan arabs) showed up. We gave them the squid and some fish we had caught - including a small sting ray. They couldn't have been happier. The Arbolete Spear Gun, was the gun of choice in those days and a good one for its time.
Ken Higgins made a 10 ft steel rod spear and brought it along on one of our trips. He speared what he thought was a small sting ray buried under the sand, the thing took off, like a shot out of a gun, jerked the spear and line out of Ken's hands - it was a big one with about 6-8 foot wing span. Couldn't believe what we saw.
We often piled into Gary Bros' Morris Minor convertible with the big Italian Fiat Truck Horn -- he loved to watch the arabs scatter when he let out a blast - they wouldn't pay attention to puny car horns and you had to slow down or stop before going around them. The truck horn scared them silly. Trucks didn't slow down for anyone or anything.
Had many a good time in the outdoor Bier Garten, and at the beer tent toward down the road where the F-86 guys from Fuerst and Feldbruck(sp?)holed up during target training out over the Mediterranean. Lots of great memories from an interesting era in our history.
Cheers! Paul

I also in the Special Service and played football for two years with the Itazuke Greenwaves.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who remembers the good times, especially at the Blue Room.
I would love to be informed of the next 6922nd reunion.
Discharged at Travis AFB Ca 1959. Retire Federal Government, working as acivilain US Army for 20 years. Frank Hogan

Comments: I was an Air Force Security Service voice intercept specialist (Korean language) in Korea 1958-60. I was in class K-9-10 at Monterey and served at Osan Air Base, having arrived too late to be assigned to P-Y-do.I flew the C-47 "Blue Sky" aircraft on reconnaissance, but spent most of that era doing voice intercept work on the ground. All these years later, with a lot of my life behind me, I'm now the author of a book on a different Air Force topic. I'm very proud of it......
Friends are asking about my book "AIR FORCE ONE".....
The publisher wrote this (below):
Air Force One is the aircraft that carries President George W. Bush. "Air Force One," published by MBI on August 10, is the book that pushes aside the curtain of secrecy to give a no-holds-barred look at the president's plane, presidential travel, and its meaning to a nation now at war......
Before September 11, 2001, the blue and white Boeing 747-200, or VC-25A, was celebrated for its beauty as it whisked the chief executive to fundraisers and ribbon cuttings. An Air Force officer called the plane a "cruise ship," comparing its luxurious accommodations to an upscale seafaring vessel. Another called Air Force One, "a symbol of a great nation constantly on the move.".....
The terror attacks changed all that. The public learned that Air Force One is a military aircraft. The book begins with the zigzag path followed by Air Force One---and its fighter escort---during hectic moments of the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Why did the aircraft take Bush from Florida to Louisiana to Nebraska, and only belatedly back to Washington? Why did officials believe that Air Force One itself was an intended target? Why did officials dust off a supersecret plan for continuity of government, disclosed in this book, that had been designed for nuclear war?.....
Author Dorr, Air Force veteran, diplomat, and columnist for Air Force Times, gives a nuts-and-bolts tour of Air Force One.....
Dorr grew up near Andrews Air Force Base, home of Air Force One, and has visited the base for 50 years. He received help from the base and from scholars and historians......
"Air Force One" is as much a part of today as this morning's headlines, but the book is also a history of presidential air travel. We learn of Franklin D. Roosevelt's "Flying White House," a C-54 Skymaster modified with a special hoist to accommodate FDR's wheelchair. We see Harry S. Truman signing national security legislation aboard his C-118, the Independence, a little-publicized presidential aircraft. We follow the travels of presidents from Eisenhower to Reagan, including November 1963 when Air Force One broug
