Comments: In January of 1957, I flew with the 60th A.R.S. from Itami Air Base, Japan, on a search for an MATS aircraft lost over the Pacific Ocean, that was flying to Japan with military dependents, about 200 miles east of Tokyo.
I was a still photographer from the 67th Reconnaissance Wing, Photo Lab, and was going along to cover the unit during the search. I have some negatives to give to a person who was assigned to the 60th A.R.S.
The aircraft that I flew on was a SC-47 SN-049565. Some of the crew were: LT. William Klesert, Pilot. Lt. William Edwards, Co-Pilot. Lt. Charles Payne. Enlisted crew personnel were: SSgt John Nielson and A1c Jenning Hibbard.

SAC shoulder patch 1949--1954 |
 |

Fred Barber wrote on 2005-11-16 20:28:30.0
Comments: I am trying to buy the SAC arc that was sewn on over the standard AF shoulder patch during the Korean war.
It was just a matching arc about 3/8" wide and maybe the arc was 2 1/2 to 3 inches long. I can't find it on the internet.
Any ideas? plz email me at derfb1@aol.com
Thanks
Fred

It Happened During the Korean War , in the Month Of November 1950 / 1953

November 1, 1952 : The United States tests its first thermonuclear device
at Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands. The device, code name "Mike" has a
yield of 10.4 million tons of TNT, 1000 times more powerful then the bomb
dropped on Hiroshima in World War II.
November 22,1952 : While leading a flight of four Lockheed F-80s on a
mission to dive bomb enemy gun positions that were harassing friendly
ground troops near Sniper Ridge, North Korea, Maj. Charles J Loring,jr.'s
aircraft is hit repeatedly as he verifies the position of the enemy guns.
His aircraft badly damaged, he turns and deliberately crashes into the
gun positions, destroying them completely. For his selfless action, Major
