Comments: This a re-post to update my e-mail address. This is a squadron list at the time my father was at the K-2(Taegu)Korea in the 9th FBS under the 49th FBG. The names came from two pictures of the sqauadron in front of the F-80C Shooting Star and the F-84E Thunderjet, but no exact dates or locations listed. I think the dates are 1951 to 1952 or 1953 also their full names are not written down and I may have some of the names spelled wrong also one of the pilots in the F-80 picture has no name listed.
F-80 9th FBS picture: Lt. Evatt, Lt. McEachern, Lt. Van DerKarr, Lt. Moxley, Lt. Forrester, Capt. Roberts, Maj. Loving, Capt. Litchfield, Lt. Loves, Lt. Steinharter (MIA), Lt. Dixon, Lt. Todd, Lt. Galbraith, Lt. Osborne, Lt. Costa, Capt. Gallagher, Lt. Overstreet, Lt. Melzer, Lt. Coons, Lt. Murphy, Lt. Dennis....
F-84 9th FBS picture: Lt. Mechling, Lt. Hawkins, Maj. Phipps, Lt. Umbarger (KIA), Lt. Huber (KIA), Lt. Bowman, Capt. Collins (KIA), Lt. Morris (KIA), Lt. Galbraith, Capt. Weber, Lt. Ward, Maj. Douglas Fant wrote on 2004-01-12 18:38:20.0
Comments: I have a picture- on the back it says "Col. R.T. Black, C.O. 9th Bomber Squadron".
It is a black and white picture that my Dad took circa 1950-1951 of Col. Black. He is in the jump seat of a B-36.
My Dad flew either as a Tech Rep or navigator on B-36's out of Ladd AFB in Alaska, and also out of Carswell AFB in Ft. Worth.
Col. Black's gear in the picture looks to be warm weather. So the picture may have been taken in Texas.
I also have a goodly number of pictures of personnel who flew on B-36's out of Ladd circa 1950-1951, no names indicated on the color slides. My dad passed on in 1981, so I cannot identify the personnel in the pictures.
Anyone out there who can help?

Comments: I am researching air combat in the Korean War by non-F-86 units. I am looking for information, first hand and otherwise on F-80 units air combat with MiGs, especially in the period November 1950 thru mid 1951. A few of these encounters are well known and written about in published US works but most are not, sometimes they are only barely mentioned at all in available US records. But some had surprising results from the Soviet perspective that I believe would make them very interesting if described in detail from both sides, so this is what I am trying to do. Any info relevant to this is most welcome.

Dates = shot down 3/16/52 and died 4/8/52. Records show he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, Air Medal and other Army medals. Is there a listing somewhere of all those who were awarded the DFC? Also would like any history or information about the Flying Knights/Iron Knights-9th Fighter Bomber Squadron. Anyone who may be still living from that unit or a relative of someone in it that may have information on any reunions or history e-mail me at pthomas@Access4Less.net. I would be very appreciative.

Comments: I have taken over for Lt Trodden as the current 9th historian. Any information on the history of the 9th would be greatly appreciated. From what I understand, in WWII the 9th was known as the Flying Knights but sometime (Korean War???) it changed to the Iron Knights (fighter-bomber roll vs pursuit???) We are back to the Flying Knights so if anyone can shed some light on why the changes it would make a great addition to the sq history. Once A Knight Is Never Enough! Capt Buck MacLaughlin

The commander of the 9th is very interested in the history of the squadron and is unsatisfied at to what we have in terms of history and anecdotes of the Iron/Flying nights. He has asked me to try to get together as much information as possible about the people of the ninth- including any stories or history any former member might have and wish to contribute to this project. It's our ultimate goal to provide the current and future members of the 9th a sense of tradition and history that they can feel a part of here at the 9th. Please contact me if you can offer any assistance on this project whatsoever. Any information is welcome. Thank you all. My email is MikeT117@hotmail.com This email was written on september 14 2000.
