Comments: I am PAST Historian of the 98th Bomb Group/ Wing Veterans Association.. I do not find Jack Elliott's name in my files. However I DO find Gerdes and Leitheiser (Including photos) They were the pilot and Co-pilot of the aircraft that crashed killing Colonel Karns. I have ordered the accident report which should list all crew members aboard at the time. Hope to have the report within two weeks.

A.B. Gerdes was listed in our 2000 membership roster, however our 2005 roster does NOT list him.

If you will Email me at BOMBGRP98H@aol.com I will TRY to answer any questions.

He was the pilot of that aircraft when they were hit by AAA fire and went down I know four parachutes got out one of which was Col. Vance Black who died in a death camp. The other three survived one of which has since passed on I believe. Anyone who knew him or can tell me any personal info. regarding him. Questions I need answered are: Did he leave a wife behind? If so was she expecting a baby? When did he ship out? Was he originally from California? Thank you in advance for your help.

Comments: I am searching for any information on my grandfather, Nelson Endicott. He was a tailgunner in Korea. I have several letters he sent to his wife, Doris, while they were in the Korean war around 1951. He came home an alcoholic and they divorced when my mother was thirteen, and he died a year before I was born. He spoke of the Miss Spokane in his letters... if anyone was on that crew, I would love to hear from you. He died a year after I was born and my mother had very little contact with him due to his destructive behavior. My husband is a war vet, and I understand how destructive it can be to one's mind. I would like to know the man he was before all of the terrible things happened. Any information on medals or awards he received, or even a picture of the crew would be much appreciated.

We have more than 1,400 active members from 1942 to the present 98th Range Wing, which is now on active duty at Nellis AFB, NV.

Other elements of the 98th that are still active ,are the 344th Air Refueling Squadron and 415th Test Flight Squadron.

We pubish a quartery news letter, Hold an annual reunion, Maintain a master roster of personnel with some 3,000 names and maintain an active WEB SITE www.pyramidiers.com.

You can view the history, reunion data, suggested reading list of books about the 98th, and post your information on the message board there.

I have been historian for over ten years, however am in the process of turning it over to a younger man.

I can't tell you a lot about the 98th BW,but I will tell you what I know.
I was a replacement on rotational basis from my home base in
tucson,to form a new crew in Japan.

The 98th arrived in the far east 8 days after the start of the war
( last week of JUNE 1950) from Spokane,Wash. Its primary targets
were bridges, railway yards and troop concentration.

The 98th remained at Yokota for the duration of the war flying some
of the last missions. As crews were sent back They were reassigned to
new organizations in the U.S. The 98th by that time was dis banded.

Over the years I have tried to find more history about the 98th but to
no avail Hearing from an old buddy would also be nice.
I will keep in touch about any thing new if you are interested.
