Comments: I Recently found out my dad George was nicknamed Custer while at the 934th TAC detachment at Seoul University. Dad was a Philco tech rep (acting rank of Captain) attached to the 934th TAC between Oct 1950 to Summer 1951.

I've started oral history of dad's experiences there, but have learned more about his experience he hasn't shared from a former sniper (now a retired sergeant major)that was then attached to unit security.

Dad has told me about Col Clark's train set and the shot glasses on the flat cars, and about his three chaplain roomates (a Rabbi, Protestant and Catholic), interactions with the local chief of Police and his family to get help going up and down the mountain between campuses to service the antennas. Seems sharing tobacco helped. It is my understanding you guys used scavenged trolley cable wires on wood frames to power antennas due to lack of insulated cable. Snipers and F-80s kept the power line secure.
Dad also taught transmission in morse - i think he said you had to send 22 five digit words a minute?
Anyway, he's 82 now so I get what I can.

Does anyone else remember Custer? Please feel free to share good and bad experiences. I'm a trained ethnohistorian not a revisionist historian, so tell it like it was please. I want to understand my father's experiences there and share them with my son and daughter when they grow older.

Please E-mail me -- Custer's oldest son.

Comments: This is a magnificent site maintained by two outstanding American Korean Vets. Please become a member and support their efforts to keep the memory of those living and dead who participated in the "Forgotten War" (a name used by those who did not participate personally in this conflict, but certainly not forgotten by those of us who were there.)

15 bucks a year will not bankrupt you and will help these Brothers to continue helping families, friends and buddies locate their missing relatives, friends and buddies.

A very worth while site for those of us who care.

God Bless Ted and Hal. God Bless you and God Bless America.

Comments: I was a power inspector for our relay sites as
well as the peace camp, in late Oct early nov.52.

I was returning from peace camp to Seoul, I
somehow got sidetracked and ended up on the side
of a Korean hill with a platoon of the third
division, which one I do not remember.

I do remember returning to it on thanksgiving day
with as many goodies as I could carry in my jeep.

I also remember a young colored boy (black) now,
about my age, by the nickname of bebop whom I have
often wondered about and tried to find. I also
have tried to find all the words to:

IT WAS THE NITE BEFORE CHRISTMAS
AND ALL THROUHT THE TENT
WAS THE ODOR OF FUEL OIL
THE STOVE PIPE WAS BENT
WHEN UPON THE HILL
THERE AROSE SUCH A CLATTER
A CHINESSE MACHINE GUN HAD STARTED CHARRER
IT CONTINUES WITH THE PLT SGT CALLING HIS MEN,
BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REMEMBER ALL OF IT.
I KNOW BEEBOP PROUBABLY DOES, BUT WHERE IS HE NOW?
