Comments: Our group is in the process of returning a A-26 B to flight status. The aircraft will be a tribute aircraft painted in the colors of Capt.J.S. Walmsley's aircraft and to the 8th B/W. We are in dire need of any photo of Capt. Walmsley during the Korean War. we do have two photo's ,but they were taken in 1947.

Our aircraft should be returned to flight status by late June or mid July. This aircraft will be based in the DFW area.

Thank you for any or all help on this matter.

Comments: I'm looking for some information about a flight line possibly associated with the 8th Bomb Squadron. I purchased a 54' M38A1 Jeep at a military surplus auction early this year. Its history is of a flight line Jeep of the Korean service era. I am currently restoring it to active looks of the time period. When I was sanding down the front bumper, in faint print was "8th BS." I'm trying to get some information of if it belonged to the 8th Bomb Squadron. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Comments: I was in Japan from May 1948 until the Korean war stationed at Johnson AB. when the war began I transferred to the 3rd group at Yokota. I spent the next 16 months in the group at Iwakuni K-2, and K-8. I rotated in October 1951 and went to the Intel school at Lowry AFB, Colo. I was the first combat intel tech to rotate to the school. I flew several B-26 missions as an observer to learn first hand what a B-26 mission was like. Normal duty I helped brief the crews before missions, debriefed crews upon their return and reported to Fifth AF via teletype. I only served 3 months at Kunson (K-8) as my 30 month tour in the Pacific was long over. I have very fond memories of my time with the 8th BS. I would like to correspond with members and perhaps even email or chat with some. There are not many of us left. I am 79 years old.

My father was the son of Daisy Adamson Story and a great-grandson of Civil War vertan P. Jackson Adamson, a g.great-grandson of War of 1812 vet John Coates Adamson, and a descendent of the Americna patriot Basil Adamson. These memories and images will be preserved for Damon's only granchild, Dylan Dameron, born 2001.

Thanks,

David Story

Keywords: Lewis Damon Story was a Korean War veteran. He entered the Air Force in January 1951 and took his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Upon completion of basic training, he was sent to Lowry A.F.B. to RTC and B-26 Gun School. He was then sent to combat crew training at Langley A.F.B. in Virginia before going overseas in January and being assigned to the 8th Bombardment Squad, 3rd Bombardment Group in Korea. He was presented the Distinguished Flying Cross in August 1953 in an informal presentation at Headquarters of the 305th Bomb Wing. Colonel E. Vandevanter, Jr., commander of the 305th, gave him the award. According to the official citation, Story distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement on the night of June 23. While Airman Story and his crew were reconnoitering their target area east of Pyongyong, North Korea, a series of convoys was sighted south toward the front line. During the repeated attacks pressed on these vehicles Story demonstrated an unusual coordination with his pilot by monitoring the instruments, altimeter and air speed indicators so effectively that the pilot was allowed to concentrate fully on his primary mission of destroying the enemy. As a result, ten enemy vehicles were destroyed by fire and explosion. Story flew fifty missions and was also awarded the air medal.

Comments: I trained in Langley with a Lt Qwinn and a Navigator whose name I have forgotten.

We were sent to Korea as a crew but where split up on arriveing there. they had a back log of gunners from the reserve trying to finish there tours.

Anyway Qwinn and his crew was shot down and captured The North Koreans Made a big deal of them Propaganda Crap. I was wondering if any of them made it home. Stan Brown Gunner
