Comments: I was stationed on the island of Okushiri Shima from 1952 to early 54 Ihave made contack with a local gal who lives in Aoni. I have sent her many pictures taken by me and other members of our group. I will send them to anyone who has served on this island. The radar and other equipment has long ago been turned over to the Japanese . I have beenlooking for friend for the last 4 years by the name of Don Ludwig. He lived at one time in CT.If anyone know of his where abouts I would be greatfull for any information you might have

Comments: I don't know of much, but I did a search of his name and I came up with a man's memoirs that had my Grandfather with the 848th AC&W...I'm guessing he was there up until 1953...? I am very interested in his life and career. Thank you.

Comments: I was stationed on the island of Okushiri from 1951 to 1953. I worked in the Ground power section . I spent 27 months on this island. It was nicked named the Alcatraz of the far East. The ROCK. I enjoyed the stay and would like to go back. I'm looking for my best friend from that time. His name is Don Ludwic. If any one know's his where abouts Please contact me.

Comments: I was an interceptor controller for the 4th Fighter Wing, 334th and 335th FIS with F86F and 339th FIS with F86D, based at Chitose AFB. Also trained JASDF in day intercept tactics in the 86F. My first PCS assignment was Nemuro AFS, Det. 26 from April-December 1956 and Det. 45 from Jan-Dec 1957. Det. 45, on top of the Mount Shikotsu near Ishikari-tobetsu was the squadron HQ on Hokkaido with detachments also at Abashiri (28), Erimozaki (36)and Wakkanai (18).

Comments: The 848th AC&W Sqdn which was part of the 511th AC&W Group during the Korean War, I was stationed at Site 28 which was at Abashiri, Japan from Nov 1952 Thru Nov 1954.
We lost our commanding officer in a L-20 DeHaviland Beaver plane crash on the site on July 14th, 1953 and there were three other fatalities in this crash.
