Comments: I'm looking for the members of Night Intruder Crew #10 that flew A/B-26s out of Pusan AFB begining in August of 1951. These are the crew members: 2d LT Weldon T Armstrong Jr.(Pilot); 2nd Lt Alfred T Schmitz (Radar/Bombadier); 1st LT Euland W Garrett (Navigator). Their gunner, PFC Ronald Cheston was MIA/KIA in Sept 1951.
We are hoping to find family members, if the crew members have passed away, that might have photos of the crew or any of the planes stationed there. We do not have the name of the plane flown by Crew #10, but are looking for photos of 'Vivian Girl' the a/c that Cheston was on when lost.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Comments: I would like to hear from anyone who went through Basic Training at Sampson AFB, NY during November 1951 through February, 1952. Flight Number was 1172, if memory serves me well. From Basic Training, we were sent to Tech School at Fort Dix, NJ for training in the Wheeled Vehicles Maintenance Course, under Army trainers. In June, 1952, we processed through Camp Stoneman (Pittsurg, California) for shipment to Korea. We sailed to Yokohama, Japan aboard the USNS General E. T. Collins. We had to make a side trip to Seattle, WA to take on 1,500 Army troops. The trip across the Pacific took some 28 days, following a zig-zag submarine avoidance course. Lots of sea-sick troops aboard! Looking for a Robert G. Wass, who hailed from Maine, and a Chin C. Sen, of NYC; the three of us went through Basic, Tech School and Camp Stoneman Processing Center, and sailed aboard the same ship to Yokohama. Bob Wass and I were assigned to the 7th Motor Transport Squadron (Motor Pool), K-11, Korea. We were there July 1952 through July 1953. Don't know what happened to Chin Sen. Really would appreciate hearing from someone. Thanks.

Another name: Chin C. Sen; also Basic at Sampson AFB, who was from NYC. All three of us went through Wheeled Vehicle Maintenance Course at Fort Dix, NJ, under Army trainers.

I was a SHORAN tech in the 728th.
The 452nd Bomb Wing (L) (NI) had 3 flying Squadrons when I was there.
728th, 729th and 730th. The 17th Bomb Wing had the 34th, 37th and
95th. I do not have the other units attached in my head at this time.
I'll try to find my files on the outfit.
We had people at Miho AB, Japan, K-9 and a tour at K-1 while K-9 was
closed for repair.
The 452nd is now a Reserve outfit in CA and Oregon. An Air lift outfit
with C-141's the last time I checked.

Subject: MIA John Henry Zimmerlee 22 Mar 52 Korea
Looking for information on B-26 or crew reported missing in action 21
or 22 Mar 1952 near Sinyon-Ni Korea with the following aboard:
John Henry Zimmerlee AO 1998932
Cecil W. Brandsted AO 721953
Wayne Edwin Lewis AF 17306085
Wilford Theodore Cook Unknown
Accoding to AFM 200-2, the plane may have crashed in Sinyon-Ni
area. A farmer heard that the crew bailed out but one's parachute did
not open. Later that day he observed three men in tan uniforms
being marched past his home in sinyon-Ni under escort of four armed
guards. Hq FEAF associated the forgoing with the missing B-26 and
crew.
According to British source evaluator B-6, Airman Wayne Lewis was seen
in Branch 3, Camp No. 2 in April 1953.

Hal or Ted,
I can't begin to tell you what joy your K/W Project efforts have
bestowed upon me. I flew night intruder operations with the 452nd Bomb
Wing during the K/W and for many years have mourned the loss of some my
closest friends in combat.
You can only image my surprise when I came across the MIA-Camp 3
message. This crew was working over a North Korean main supply route in
a valley a few miles from my assigned route that night. After a terse
radio message from Cecil Brandsted (the pilot) that he had spotted some
enemy road traffic and was initiating an attack, there followed
silence.
Several of the later flights that night were diverted to the area in a
search effort, but to no avail.
It has always been a mystery. They simply vanished without a trace.
The fact that a North Korean farmer spotted three men under armed guard
in the vicinity the following day lends credence to the fact that there
may have been survivors.
Of course, now the question is where are they, or what happend to them?
Our night intruder losses during the K/W were sporadic. We could go
for couple weeks without so much as a single scratch on one of our
B-26's. Then wham, we'd lose three in a row. Our sister wing on the
west side of Korea (3rd Bomb Wing) always had high losses, so much so
that they were grounded at one point because replacements weren't
arriving fast enough.
Anyway, I just want to thank you for your efforts. It has to be a labor
of love. There just aren't that many people (that I know of) that even
know where Korea is, let alone remember the Korean War.
May you be richly blessed in the coming years.

More on Zimmerlee
Hi Ted,
A short time ago I sent an e-mail to you requesting any available
info on Wayne E. Lewis who was a member of a B26 crew from
the 452nd Bomb Wing stationed in Pusan(K9).
Was shot down in March of 1952.
Let me start over.
On Monday of November 11,1996 a John Zimmerlee sent you a message
requesting information concering MIA John Henry Zimmerlee who was
a member of the B-26 crew shot down in march of 1952.
On that same crew was my best friend Wayne E. Lewis. Wayne and I went
through Gunnery School together at Lowry A.F.B. in Denver and combat
crew training at Langley Field, Va.
We were both in the 728th Bomb Squadon and we were both scheduled
for missions the same night he was reported missing. Zimmerlee's
message also included some information that according to a British
source evaluator, Wayne E, Lewis was seen in Branch 3, camp
2 in April of 1953.
That would indicate that he survived the bail out or crash landing.
His name to my knowledge has never shown up on any KIA, Died in
captivity or repatriation list.
It would mean a great deal to me if you could provide any additional
information on Wayne or perhaps a name and address for the person who
actually saw Wayne in 1953.
Thanks for the help.

Thank you for doing this. I am Richard Lyden, my father was 1Lt William
Robert Lyden with the USAF in Korea. Flying out of Pusan AFB. He was
shot down on Sept 7, 1951 and declared dead on Dec 31, 1953.
I was 7 months old when he went overseas and never got to know the man.
I need to put some perspective on the man whose name I carry, yet never
knew.
I have recently found the name of my fathers B-26. It was "Vivian Girl".
Since my father is an MIA, this information actually adds some reality
and makes it more personal to myself and my family. If anyone has
photos from K-9 of any of the B-26's and by some miracle you have one
of this aircraft I will pay you for any duplication or copying
of the photo.
Thank you for support of our fathers.

I have been lucky enough to uncover more information on my father and
looking for help. I am looking for Weldon Thomas Armstrong, USAF
(Friend of my father who was also stationed at K-9), and information on
Henry F. Dixon, Capt, USAF (Crewmember).
My fathers plane was, B-26 (Ser. No. 44-34337) nick named "Vivian Girl"
If anyone has a picture of this plane from K-9 please let me know. I
only learned of the exact plane a few days ago and I am very interested
in seeing a photo of it, and the Pusan East Air Base.
Any information on his targets.. Singye, Samdung, Kongdong, and Sonchow
or his flight path K-9 to K-3 to K46 to Point Yoke, to Target Green 7
would also help to fill in the blanks.
Thanks in advance.
