Keywords: My Uncle, 2nd Lt. Ellwood E. Collins flew with the 44th Bomb Group - 68th Bomb Squadron. Their plane was shot down over Foggia, Italy and he was transported by German boxcar to Stalag Luft VII A after parachuting out of his plane at 18,000 ft. 6 of the 10 crew members made it out alive. If anyone knows anything they could tell me about him as I've been doing family history for 18 yrs and he is a missing part of it. He was my mother's brother and wanted no contact with the family or his crew once liberated. He apparently also had a man named Austin and Shannon with him. Austin escaped from the boxcar in the Alps on their way from Italy to Germany. Ellwood was in the Moosburg work camps. Thank you.

I was going through some old home movies and found a few minutes of 16mm film of the base and flight line that I digitized and will send to anyone who's interested. My dad is (SSgt) Ray Webb from Many, LA (now in Farmer's Branch, TX). Let me know if you're interested. markpwebb@tx.rr.com

David R. Garrett wrote on 2002-04-08 16:46:03.0
Comments: per the Knoxville, TN newspaper the last reunion of the 69th FIS will be held in Alcoa, TN on May 16-20, 2002, at the Airport Hilton. This will be the 20th and, probably, the last reunion of this group. During the reunion there is a planned trip to Middlesboro, KY to view a P38 that was recovered from Greenland a few years ago. The organizer is Dot Brooks, widow of Eugene Brooks who was in the squadron during KW.

Comments: I was a Aerial Photographer assigned to the 68th Ftr Sqdn from 1947 to 1949. The 68th flew survaliance missions in the Tsuashima Strights and up in the sea of Japan. We flew with in short distance of Valdistok, Russia. We wre checking up photographing all type of Russian shipping. The only name that sticks out in my mind at this moment is Major DaRosa who was the commanding officer. I also remember Lt. Geddis. I have a few pictures that I would share. If any one was wth the 68th at that time, I like to hear from you. John Pitre
