Our Squardron was a family and were very tight. We were a team and proud to be called a Kyushu Gypsy. Our main objectives were, drop the Army, air evacuation and return our wounded and expired boys back to Japan. Keywords: Maintained C-47's and later C-119 Box Cars out of Ashiya between 1952 and 1955. Flew as crew chief into K-18 and K-16 during that period. Names of some buddies are: John Johnson who played football at our maintenance facility in Ashia. Hilderbran and Hayes from Ohio who was raised in Georgia at an early age and Sam Moss attached in maintenance. |

I was there in 52 - 53 as a Radio Operator flying on the C-47 Goonies. I had to return to the ZI in June of 1953 on emergency leave. As a result I did not return to K-16 and never received my Air Medal (I flew 42 C1 Missions) I should be on orders with someone but can't seem to find any of the guys I knew. I lived in tent 706.
