Comments: My father was in the Army and in the Korean War. My father died when I was young and I never knew anything about this part of his life. I recently located a writing he submitted in college recounting an experience he had while in Korea. I have a picture where he identified his buddy with the last name Erdman. In this writing he states that after 6 days of rain they were awakened with a red alert. They were told they were not being attacked, but due to flood conditions they had to evacuate the Seoul City Air Base and relocate to an alternate air base 30 miles away. Just checking to see if any of this is familiar to anyone that I might get more information.

Cold weather injury/ Winter 1957/58 |

Comments: Assigned Special Guard Assignment to Lay concealed on the ground for a period of four hours hours in an effort to catch thieves who were sneaking on base . I have had severe pain in my knees ever since. Because I never stood in the WHINE line and complained there is no record of my problem in my medical records. I need proof of the severe cold weather and if possible word from the Sergeant of the guard who gave me that special assignment. It was known to be thirty below zero during that winter of 1957-58.

Comments: I was stationed there from March 1952 until January 1953. Five months of that year I was TDY to Komaki Air Base in Japan while the hanger was rebuilt so that we could maintain our C-47's there. The aircraft were flown to Komaki for periodic maintaince. I also worked on B-26, C-46, and T-6 aircraft while in Korea.Since it's been 54 years since I was there, names of buddies have escaped me. I do remember our line chief was a M/Sgt Black. I ended my Air Force career with the 434th Wing at Grissom ARB, in Indiana with 1700 hours as flight engineer on C-119's.
