Comments: My father (deceased) left me his Air Force flight jacket. On the left hand pocket is a round patch that reads "Camel Control" at the top and at the bottom "610 A-C-W".

Through research, I think that this represents that he was station in Japan with the Fifth Air Force and was in the 610th Air Control Wing. The unit was Camel Control.

My mother remembers that he was in the Office of Special Investigations (OSI)and has a letter of commendation that reads "Army of Occupation - Medal of Japan.

This document was signed by Major Donald Kesler.

I want to find out any information that will tell me what the unit Camel Control was and what it's mission was. My father was discharged from the Air Force in May 1950. I apprecaite any info that anyone can provide.

DET #3 RADAR OPERATORS 1952-1954 SHIGANO SHIMA

Comments: Hello To All "Scopedopes"(Radar Operators-27350's)that I served with in Detachment # 3 at Shigano Shima, Japan from 1952 to 1954. One of our Crew Chiefs was Radar Webb (now deceased)from Dusty Oklahoma. Do you remember taking the 6 Ply Trucks through the fishing village on the way up to the HIll. I remember the bare-breasted ladies well and we gave them names based on their physical attributes as we passed them in the truck. Examples were "Peaches-San", Pears, Grapefruit, Lemons, etc. In 1953, forty days of rain wiped out many of the fishing village holes that simply slide into the sea. I also remember the "Corner Hotel" down in Satozaki where much gohan and Kirin Beer was consumed. Do you remember the GI who went berserk in Town one night and shot up a couple of troops and some locals before the MP's had to kill him. Oh what a pleasant little village Satozaki was eh?? I gave up promotion to SSgt because I had orders to report for Flight Training Stateside. When I got home, my Class was scrubbed because the War had ended. So I finished Undergrad and Graduate School, ultimately got a Direct Commission in Naval Reserve Intelligence and rose to the Rank of 0-6, with 4 Stripes as a Navy Captain. Had 4 Major Commands in the Pentagon and worked directly with DOD, The Joint Chiefs, Director of Naval Intelligence and SecNav. I retired in 1989 at the mandatory age of 60. If any of you birds are out there, drop me a line on the Internet. Be SURE TO PUT 610th AC&W in your subject line so I don't "DELETE" you thnking you're trying to sell me Viagra. Hope to hear from you soon. God Bless You All. Best Regards from the Center Fielder of our Base Baseball Team... Tom Sheehan

Comments: I'm trying to locate folks who knew my Dad, Robert "Bob" House. He was stationed in Japan with the 610th. I know he left the US from San Fransisco on the USS Breckenridge sometime around the first week of January, 1948. My Dad passed away a couple of years ago, and I have his Camel Control jacket patch and boxes of pictures of him and the different installations throughout Japan. His last DD214 shows his discharge from the 752nd AC&W at Selfridge AFB in Michigan. I'd appreciate any contact from anyone that might have known him.

610th ACW Sq was in operation during the shooting war of Korea,
we had many radar detachments all over and around Southern Japan.

Hqs was at Itazuke AFB.

I personally was assigned to a Detachment on an island 100
miles SSE of K-39 (Chede Do).
