I was assigned to Korea from 1952 to 1953 and our detachment was on the compound of the 5th Air Force Heaquarters. It was across the road from the 8th Army Headquarters. I was returned to Tokyo from 1953-1954and returned to the states where I served in South Carolina at Shaw AFB for 6 months before my discharge there. The air force awarded me 3 battle stars for serving in Korea. My work at our headquarters was published after I returned to the states, as I was told by my friend, Paul Ono, of Gardena, California. I felt that it was my duty and privilege to have served my country = this great land of ours = The USA!

Genevieve Vaughn wrote on 2004-07-13 22:02:51.0
Comments: Am looking for anyone who knew my father, Maj. (Clare) Ray Vaughn. He was called Ray and often signed his name “C. R. Vaughn”. I think he got a wartime promotion to Lt. Col. He was in the Fifth Air Force and was killed 7/6/1950 at Itazuke AFB.
We were stationed in Nagoya 1948-50, where he was in the adjutant generalÂ’s office. He was in an early party bound for Korea when he was killed. Before Japan he was stationed at Lowry AFB in Denver.
The nuclear family survivors are my mother, Mary Dyer Vaughn, myself, and my brother Terry David Vaughn.
Names I remember from the time are Dusty Miller, Stan Koziara, and Col. West. Also teachers at Nagoya American School might have known our family(?). We knew a family whose daughters were Josephine and Lucille Burris.
Sincerely,
Genevieve Vaughn

Comments: I am researching a photo for a local veteran's group. The photo is not dated, but has Fifth Air Force stamped on the back. It is a photo of a C124 crash along the Han River in Korea. Patron would like to know any information to date the photo/crash, servicemen/squadron involved, conditions etc. Please forward any information to Periodicalcenter@cpl.org. Thank you, so much.

K-Base Confusion |

John DeShetler wrote on 2000-08-27 22:43:07.0
Comments: Greeting vets, I work in the USFK history office here at Yongsan Garrison in Seoul and putting the final touches on a study of the K-bases used during the Korean War. The largest piece missing out of this puzzle is the guidance on designating these bases. Based on context clues there didn't seem to be a logical polciy. Hangaru-ri wasn't a K-base and yet there is little evidence of Oesichon-Dong, K-32, being used. If you worked for any of the big guys and can offer some input I'd greatly appreciate it. Comments: My name is Horace M. Miller and I served in Korea as S/Sgt with HQ5AF April 1951 - April 1952. I rotated to Keesler AFB, MS where I was stationed until release from Active Duty later in '52. If any of you worked in PRC during the time I was there please contact me. My boss for most of the period was Major Harry G. Entwistle. I am doing a bio form my children and grands and would like to fill some gaps of events during that period. Thank you.

Comments: My daughter is doing an autobiography for school and her search has brought us here as my father was in Korea during the war and met my mother in Japan. Her memory and spelling isn't the best, but I'm looking for information regarding the 5th Air Force Base, Itazuki, Fukuoka, Japan.
