Comments: I am looking for anyone who served with my father, Captain (at the time) Belton Evans at Niigata Air Base with the Weather Squadron. They had an owl for a mascot. We lived off base for a time in a Japanese house and then on base in one of the 6 or 8 base houses. We would trick-or-treat at the barracks which were located down the road near a lake.

Comments: On Regurn from 9 mos in Korea in mid 1951 was assigned as comm chief of the ADCC at Johnson. We had 3 GCI sites and I believe 7or 9 radar sites feeding into the GCI which in turn fed into our ADCC at Johnson. I believe the OC was Col Lamont Saxon, who had a ham rig in his quarters I mained and operated. It was either JA3LS or JA2LS. For some time prior to end 1951 before I rotated back to the ZI, I was assigned to maintain and use our close air support radio jeeps (we had 4 or 5 in the motor pool) to communicate with P-51's dispatched from Johnson, used to provide close air support demos to 8th Army replacements training before going to Korea. I did this only on Thursday and leased a house in Fugi Yoshuta, the small village which was the departure point for those climbing Mt. Fugi.
Our communications from the radar sites was through the 70 mzh FM 4 channel military radio systems - plus Japanese telephone circuits, and for back-up, HF radio. All position tracking off search radar was by voice and grid positioning from personnel standing behind the plastic map of the area on which controllers would advise where on the map the target should be marked. I have zero recollection of names of any I worked with other than Col Saxon and I don't have any verification on anything else in both Japan and Korea. I am in dec of 03, 73 years of age.
