FQ-390, MID NIGHT SINNER |
| ROGER JONES wrote on January 30, 2012 CITY AND STATE: WILLIAMSBURG VA UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: My Dad, H.W. Rocky Jones, Jr. was the pilot of the F-82G named Mid Night Sinner based out of Itazuke, Japan during the Korean War. His R.O. was named Talmage Allred if I remember right. There is a model site from Germany that features Dad's plane and I had to get the pages translated into English so I could correct the information. The author web/model builder was more than happy to correct it for me. There are a few model kits available with Dad's plane art and one of them actually lists his name on the instructions only, and not the box art. If anyone flew with my Dad and or has any pictures other than the one with the four planes, I'd would like to get copies, or jpg's of them. I have the original and once I locate it I will make it available at a much higher resolution photo. My Dad also flew with Ron Sherman's Dad who was the pilot of the Miss Carriage and I have spoken with him a few years ago, but I was recently laid off from a 30 year contract Graphic Designer position at NASA due to budget cuts, so use this email instead. I would also like to know the meaning or designation of the diagonal stripes behind the cockpit. I've seen some pics of Dad's plane with a red one, and other pics without. I also believe he had blue spinners and not red as models illustrate. Tragically on July 7, 1990 my Dad was killed in a mid air collision at a Formula-1 air race when an active NASA shuttle pilot (Gibson) clipped his wing off and spun him into a cornfield in Texas. I plan on doing some painting of Dad's plane and need references to confirm details. Keywords: 4th F(AW)S Naha, Itazuke, FQ-390, H.W. Rocky Jones, Jr., Mid Night Sinner |

| FRANCIS PIRAINO wrote on February 7, 2005 CITY AND STATE: POCONO SUMMIT PA UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: AIR FORCE VETERAN - KOREA Comments: I see this is about 10 years too late, but I just came across this site and thought maybe you might still be interested in more info... I was stationed at Naha Okinawa when the Korean war started and our F-82's were shipped to Tachikawa Japan. The mechanics (me)followed a few days later. I know that I was assigned to the 4th F(AW)S. but I can't remember much else. I do know that it was our sq. that flew the first mission across the 38th and shot down the first 'mig'.. My 'plane' was WEE PEE II. I believe it was # 389 on the tail.. enclosed is a picture that I took flying in formation 'training' over Okinawa. I use to fly every chance I could as the RO. I loved it... no picture is sent now, but if anyone wanted to see it, just email me.. thanks francis piraino pocono summit pa Keywords: I just came about this site and wanted to respond to 'ESeman2788@aol.com' but my email returned.. so I thought i'd put my info here. |

BARRY ROSS |
| SHANNON DUNFORD wrote on February 5, 2003 CITY AND STATE: BATH UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: INTERESTED PERSON Comments: Did anyone know my uncle, Barry Ross (or could have used the surname Kennedy-Ross). He was brought up in South Africa but I understand flew with the Canadians. He was shot down behind enemy lines but made it back to camp. I remember my mother having an article printed in the local Cape Town newspaper about this. Sadly he passed away some years ago but was a lovely man and a well-respected teacher. I would be very interested to learn about his time in Korea. Keywords: |
